1944 Farmall M Transmission

I have just recently purchased a 1944 farmall M. It has a two speed transmission. Was this an option or has it been replaced? The suffix at the end of the serial number is blank therefore I assume it came standard.

it is an aftermarket 9 speed more than likely. m+w made them, also heisler, may have been some other ones out there. my '50 m has an m+w, cable operated, cable goes into gearcase by brake pedals. real handy on an m as 4th can be pretty slow and 5th can be way too fast. gives you 4 more gear speeds between 4th gear and road gear.
