cnn.com said that the Swiss bank UBS has agreed to furnish the IRS with numbered accounts of the names, address and cash amounts held in the bank accounts.

OUCH!!!

I bet that banks phone lines are tied up so bad you cant get through for a month!Yeah and they need to put the list on TV and in the newspaper.
 
need to "put the list on Tv and in the paper"? Why is it yours or my business how much money someone has in a bank account be it american or swiss?

please explain this logic to me
 
Well it would be interesting to see who the Americans are that went to so much trouble to put money in a Swiss account.Then some outside source could follow the money back to the United States and we could all see if it was taxpayers money that was stolen and deposited in the Swiss account.Then rather than taking some government investigations word for it,we might get a good idea of who is really on government welfare and maybe stop it instead of watch it be covered up.
 
One reason is that the Secret Numbered Swiss bank accounts have long--long--been used to hide income that was acquired thru questionable means AND/OR had been omitted from tax returns in the Country of origin.
The Swiss openly sold their "bank secrecy" to all kinds of undesireables, from Mexican Presidents' families to Marc Rich types, who failed to pay US income taxes, which means we're paying their share...(the Marc Rich types, not the Mexicans)...
Shall I go on??...
Incidentally, years ago the Journal had one of their humorous front page pieces on how Swiss accounts were becoming dated, mentioning a number of other tax "havens" even more secretive...
 
I'd like to see the "list" too , and I'm not explaining my logic to you or anyone else. You would look at the "list" as well. btw, why are you not post your name?

The stuff I read was that the accounts of those whom the U.S. wanted to prosecute for tax fraud were being released. Sure hope they don't release mine and let everyone know how poor I really am.

Yup, I ain't no businessman, but it seems to me that if your customers aren't buying (taxpayers paying taxes), you either gotta improve the quality of your product (govt "services") or reduce your costs (cut govt spending) to win your customers confidence again. I think nearly everybody, except the recent string of Cabinet nominees, agrees that it's in their best interest to pay reasonable and proper taxes to continue the proper functioning of the government.

For those of you who can't follow that: If taxes weren't so danged high, you wouldn't have people spending so much time, money and effort to avoid paying them!

UBS helped 17,000 people illegaly avoid US taxes. They were fined 1.2 billion dallars for their indescretion. UBS had declined to name the people whom it helped evade US taxes.

Well, it is illegal to intentionally hide income to avoid taxes. I'll bet it's a list of the whos who of all the abundant, elite, Hollywierd, politicians, etc.

have)it would be the same as my balance, 00000000. If we (the USA) would STOP giving
OUR money to ALL of the rest of the world,
we wouldn't have to pay any taxes!!!!
