Now when you guys go to these farm shows is it only farm equipment you are interested in or other sights ?????

Speaking of farm shows, this morning I saw Ag Day, they were at a farm show- don't know which one. They showed a 48 row (120 ft. wide) JD planter. Said it can cover 100 acres an hour. Then I wondered how many of those actually sell.

Vito, thats good then there should be no one or equipment that should feel left out give it all a look...

deere says three to four a year @350000
each one guy in interview said that his smallest field was 2700 acres and he makes no more that 4 to five passes to plant entire field

AH Let"s try that again. If it covers 100 acres per hour and the field is 2700 acres that would take 27 hours to plant, not 4 or 5 passes!!!!

Somebody is grossly exagerating. 2700 acres is about 17 quarter sections of land. Where in the world would anyone try to get that much land into one field. There are some big farms in Canada and the US midwest, but 2700 acres in one field? A blatant lie in my opinion.

M Moline fan, I saw the John Deere 48 row drill at the Farm Show at Louisville, Ky Show last Saturaday. It was 120 feet wide, the last 4 rows on each end were folded up because it filled the show space. The Saleslady told me the price was $345,000 for the drill. I ask her if it was available with splitters and she said NO, I told her I didn't want one then. HO HO

Here in IL in the river bottoms along the IL and Mississippi rivers there are tracts of farm ground that are that large or larger that could be farmed as single fields. I do know of one tract that is continuous and is over 4000 acres. This is pretty rare as most farms are 1/4 section or less.

Seems like I've heard there's big parcels in South America, and Australia. If the ground is on the soft side it would take a lot of tractor to pull it.

Does seem a liitle far fetched, but I was stationed at Yuma Proving Ground in Az. back in the '80s and it consisted of 1000s and 1000s of acres...now alot of it has been turned into a nature preserve.

They all just like to discourage the little guys. There still is alot of demand for the smaeller stufff. Try to pick up a JD 7000 4 row for a decent price at an auction.

about the guy with the planter and 2700 acre field.....how wide and long is it??? It is possible that it is quite narrow and long???? Couldnt resist....always has to be a Jack@ss.....

Maybe he said 45 passes. 44 @ 120'/pass=1 mile. 2700 acre field would be 1 section wide and a little over 4 sections long.
