2005 Dodge Dakotta

I have a 2005 dodge dakotta that the drivers side brake rubber line blew out. The dealer said that the calipar locked up and that is what caused the line to break. My question is they claim this is not covered by the 3 year 36000 warranty as the calipar is a wear item. I understand brake shoes rotors tires but the calipar? Any info or advice would be welcome. The truck has 30000 on it.

Ya,they sugar coat the warrenty to get your money, then you have a problem and they tell you ohh sorry thats not covered. Would they go broke giving you a caliper, ah bad question they probably will, without there bailout money. Makes me think of the twin towers, insured, airplanes fly into them, but there not covered for THAT...... Geese would the be covered if king kong climbed up them?

Two suggestions:
1. What is stated in your new vehicle warranty guide where the maintenance/wear out items are specified? For my 2006 Ford, calipers are not listed.
2. I would request a meeting with Chevy's Regional Service manager.

"the calipar locked up and that is what caused the line to break."

If he told you he had some ocean-front property in Arizona would you buy that too?

I thought the same thing but how do you argue that one. Im also asking where a non warranty part breaks and breaks a warranty part is covered. I think he is trying to pull a fast one i hate having to fight for something that is mine already.

If a brake caliper seized, it would not under any circumstances cause the rubber line to fail. You would know if the caliper were seized on one side because it would pull really hard to the side with the working caliper. The only reason for denying coverage on the brake line is if you ran over something and it cut the hose. That is not Chrysler's fault. The only thing I have ever seen cause a caliper to seize is moisture. If the dust boot cracked or was improperly installed, water can get in and rust the caliper bore and stick the piston. Adding oil to the brake system will ruin all of the rubber parts too. Brake pads are wear items and would only be covered in the event another part caused damage like an axle seal leaking oil on them.
You may be over on time for warranty. Based on the description you gave, I'd be taking my vehicle else where for service.

I an sorry but that dealer is sticking it to you and the 3-36 is a full coverage warranty . and a caliper sticking will not blow a brake line. The bull shut that they try and feed people is unreal today. I went thru this when we bought the wife Durango . They were tryen to feed me a line till i let them have it . First off i was a master certified Chrysler tech along with a Chrysler Plymoth parts manager for one of the larger Chrysler Plymoth dealers in the area . And i still know a few phone Numbers . There attitude changed real fast. Even when the heater blower rheostast let go AFTER the 3-36 ran out i took it over to get a new one and as i was getting the part from the parts dept the service manager came over and told the partsman not to bill me for it and he told me that if i could wait a bit they would install it at NO Charge. They did not have to do that as i was more then will to pay for the aprt and install it myself . Best bet is to call Chrysler and if you get nowhere with them then ya make a call to the US dept of transportation vehicle safty board and they will send you some paper work to fill out as this is a safety concern . There have been more then JUT you that has had this problem and you may have other legal grounds on this . Just don't roll over and play dead.

Blown blower resistors are due to junk blower motors . done a ton of them . Caravans and Durangos , book time on blower replacement 5-6 hours jfc ! Got it down to 2 hrs . but still a job

Call Chrysler Corp. PH. Number is in back of owners manual.

Call other dealers to see if they stock that hose. If alot of dealers keep that hose then they know they have a problem with them. If not then maybe it got damaged somehow ?
