Coming home from work today and I crossed the Mississippi River at Muscatine, Ia, there was a tow and barges headed upriver into the Locks. I don't remember the last time the river was open this early. Usually it's in March when it opens. I'll have to pay more attention to the local markets tomorrow going to work and see if the river elevators are taking grain. Chris

I work up river from you, R.I.A. Cross the bridge at Davenport twice a day. I was wondering my self when the were going to start running the big boats. A buddy of mine works at the grain terminal there. I'll have to call him and see when he has to start loading barges. I was in Clinton, IA this afternoon. Went past ADM, the grain trucks were backed up 2 wide for blocks!

We were in Guttenburg yesterday, and the locks were not open yet there. The ice was gone below the dam and about 6 boat loads of fisherman were trying for walley. Above the dam it is still ice covered. Still some icefishing by Abel Island.

Here in Saskatchewan, Canada the main river thru the province doesn't usually open till mid April. Will be ice fishing till the end of March when the season closes. The lakes won't be ice free till mid May to mid June. Canuck4
