Well, it was almost a year ago when we were looking at a B head, and now im wondering about my unstyled WC head. Heres a few pictures of it. Im trying to figure out what i need to do to her. She aint pretty, and i know nothing about heads. Theres this build up of crud everywhere here, can i get by with just wire wheeling the valves and getting the head hot-tanked

lance, your best bet is to take that head to a machine shop and let them do it. it will at the very least need valves, seats cut, guides knurled, have them remove the intake from the head and get the studs out. then have them check the head for warpage and cracking. if you try and cut corners on the head, its gonna bite you real hard. may drop a valve and wipe out a piston or sleeve, or worse, toast the block.

that sounds fun.....

is finding a half decent head off a parted out running machine a better idea then trying to fix this one by chance???

i'd try and fix this head if at all possible. getting another used head, and you will prolly need to go thru it the same. i learned early on, if you try and cut a corner, its going to come back and haunt you. do it right the first time and you wont have to re-do it the right way the second time.

Do what Glennster said- he covered it all- you"d have to do the same with any head. You can clean it up with a wire brush, but then do the magna flux at a shop. Then fix what is bad. If it"s cracked (shows up with magna flux)- you have junk. Why try another head that you know nothing about? KISS formula.
