John Deere 3 bottom plow question

I purchased a 3 blade plow and the blades were off the frame. I believe I have all the correct hardware to hook them back to the framework. If anyone has any pictures or descriptions on how to do this, please let me know. The unit is from the late 70's. Thanks.

First of all, learn to call things by their proper name. It's not a blade,it's a share. And above the share it's called a moldboard.

If you know the model of your plow go to the JDParts page and look it up. Learn the names of the various parts and compare the parts in the online parts book with what you have in hand. Good luck! ...Randy

Did it say anything in the manual about....its not how deep you plow its how long you stay in the field ?? have fun sir.

Thats funny, around here a plow bottom is made of 4 parts, the point, the moldboard, the frog and the trash cover.

Yea, I hear shin used around here too some. Is the landside the piece at the back of the bottom that forms the furrow?

:) The "landside" is the long piece on the left side (assuming the plow turns the soil to the right) of the "bottom" that runs against the unplowed ground and keeps the "bottom" from being pushed to the left! Here's some more terminology!

Bottom = the plow unit, which consists of:
Beam = the curved or trussed bar that holds the
Frog = which has the following attached to it:
Share = the cutting edge that cuts the bottom of the furrow
Point = sometimes added to lead point of the share
Moldboard = long curved piece that actually rolls the soil over
Moldboard extension = extension to the outer end of moldboard, helps prevent the furrow slice from rolling back
Trash board = mini moldboard above shin to help cover rank vegetation
Shin = vertical cutting edge ahead of the moldboard cuts vertical edge of the furrow
Landside = as described above
Heel = wear piece sometimes attached to outer end of landside

Much of this information was taken from one of the operators manuals for JD moldboard plows, thanks John Deere. If you find any errors or omissions, don't blame me, blame JD!

There are a bunch more parts that are attached to various places on the plow units such as coulters, root cutters, trip bottoms, auto re-set bottoms, etc, but that's another topic for another day, and perhaps another poster
