O/T: Another small school closes its doors.

Found out to day that my school is closing do to financial issues. And by small I mean 10 students. More like a family really.
Yankton Country School opened the fall of 2000 folowing the closing of the original high school. Know after 9 years they dont think that they are going to make it to the end of the year. There are disccusions about the elamentry school here in town closing also.
Thanks for the rant.

That's happened to a lot of little towns in North Dakota. It was happening when I lived there 30 years ago, and just keeps on happening. Kind of sad, since it tears the heart out of communities, but when transportation keeps getting better and more reliable in all kinds of weather, and maintenance costs of the schools keep climbing, school consolidation is the only economical way to provide an education to kids in rural areas.

Happened in SW Iowa too, in 47, closed the 1 room school I was going to, in 59, took 7 small high schools in eastern half of the county, Union, and made 1 BIG high school. Didn't like it then and still don't same thing around here, NE ILL now, except goin the opther way, made 2 seperate high schools out of 1 district. STILL sucks.
