OT Mounting antlers

Such as deer and elk and moose, or bulls. In MN do I need a taxidermy liscence? Want to start a side business that the boys can learn as well.

Varying Wooden badge shaped plaques. Use plaster of paris for shaping of the base of the antlers. Just about anything for a clovering. Nothing like the cheap looking kits you can buy.

instead of plaster of paris try the expanding spray foam in a can found at the lumber store. spray it where you want to build up the antler area and when it's dry you can start to shape it with a small saw and then finish it with a rasp. my friend the taxidermist has done thousands of them and they are easy to do!

I wont use that stuff. carpet beetles, litter beetles, and little friend's like them will borrow into the stuff and lay eggs. Eventually it'll be ruined.

I don't know the answer to your original question, but you've got me curious about the plaster. Most everything you see mounted here is just the skull cap cleaned up and mounted. I've, as a kid, used a torch to darken the bone and once (cause the guy that gave me the horns thought it'd look good) painted the skull with bronze paint  .

Prettiest ones I done were my first kill. Used two layers of 1/2 " carpet pad and stretched velvet over it.
