The one page of the manual I have said oil supposed to go in the red cap till it reaches the threads on the plug on the left side of the pump(not shown in pic). Only problem is there"s diesel fuel in there instead of oil?
Anybody else have this style Bosch pump?

Delivery valve seal has eroded. Its leaking internally. Pump needs to be rebuilt.

Would that seal being bad cause the tractor to smoke really bad...(blue smoke). What's the avg pump cost to be rebuilt?

Could easily cause the timing to be slow and that could cause the blue smoke. I can't give you an estimate on a rebuild. I do my own work and no longer run a diesel room. From the looks of your pump, it could take a lot of parts to rebuild it correctly. Ask a diesel pump shop what to expect as far as cost.

Depends on Style of pump and parts needed for repair. I just had a pump for a 3A152 perkins rebuilt for under 400 dollars. I have seen some pumps come in at 1800.00. Just depends on how bad they are.

Are you sitting down? It depends on how popular the pump is. My neighbor needs a pump rebuilt for an early IH 706 and they aren't very common. They wanted $3000.00! He didn't think the tractor was worth it but has his name on a list at some tractor salvage yards for a good used one. He needed another loader tractor for moving bales and the only one he could find, in kind of a hurry, was a 1210 David Brown with loader for $10,000.00. I think injection pumps typically range from about $2000.00 and up depending on what all they need. Sorry for the bad news. Dave

Would this be something I could do myself? I have alot of mechanical background but never with diesel's or a injection pump for that matter. Do you think I could find a used pump like this? Would it be a common pump?

Oh come on a injection pump for a D282 on a 706 is about as common as a cold And somebody is really sticking it to him . It should cost no more then 750 even if it was trashed out . And R&R of the pump off and back on no more then three hours.

Would mine be a common pump? Should I look for a used one or is it something I could rebuild myself. Do they sell like a rebuild kit?

I dont know how common it is but it looks a lot like a pump on a Isuzu motor on a Thermo King refrigeration unit. There are millions of those Thermo Kings, and probably used on other things like forklifts, tractors, even cars and trucks in the past.Only its a 3 cylinder and Isuzus are 4 cylinder. There should be lots of places to get it rebuilt, just have to look hard for one close to you. Most big cities have places that rebuild diesel fuel pumps.

I looked it up and found it was bought out by Zetor tractor maybe. If so you might find a dealer close, there are 200 in the USA.Maybe call a dealer and ask what it costs to rebuild a pump.See if he can tell you how bad it is to rebuild and what it costs, compared to putting a seal in yourself. As long as the shafts not wore out and you dont need special tools you dont have you might be able to do it.Working on the inside of the pump might be a lot harder,or if you have to tear it completely apart to get to the seal, probably dont want to try that.

Similar, but different. Just had the 4 cyl. inline Minimec/Cav/Lucas pump on my Ford 655A backhoe rebuilt for a similar problem- $900- The parts are now Delphi?!
When I bought this unit four years ago a little rusty colored fuel dribbled out of the inj. pump where there should have been oil. I flushed it and filled it with oil, and have serviced it religiously. It just got this past fall so it wouldn't hold oil- it quickly dumped into the engine crankcase. Pump guys told me seal was probably finished off by a bad bearing, which probably was failing from lack of lubrication. They were right.
You might be better off that at least there's some lubrication in there. Have you tried draining it, and filling it correctly with oil? And then running it to establish what's really happening and how long it takes?

I was gonna try that Bob but I didn't see any drain plug? So I was gonna just keep adding oil until it came out the inspection hole but instead the oil goes out the overflow tube.
Any ideas?

Matt: you must be younger than 60!. All the old American Bosch and later English and German Bosch pumps were that way. When Was the last time you changed the oil? I send you an e-mail. Tell me if you do or do not receive it. I don't think you have much of a problem> J.

I would start with a tractor dealer that has parts.Ask them if they work on their own fuel pumps or send them out.If they work on them they will have parts,if not whoever they send them out to will.If that doesnt work you could take the numbers to an auto parts place and see what they come up with. Its going to take a little looking maybe, and I have no idea if you can fix it yourself. My guess is there is a chance you can fix it,parts are probably available.Of course I could always be wrong.Maybe a diesel pump mechanic will see this and give you more info. Its more a question of finding somebody that works on pumps I think. There are places that do that, and dealers that do it too.It takes some high priced tools to work on that stuff and they are very precise,so a better than average type of mechanic usually that only work on pumps and fuel systems, sort of like machinists that bore blocks and turn cranks. Those types of places might know as well or have a fuel pump repair booth themselves.I dont know enough about working on one of them to tell you.Thermo Kings run lots of hours, but I have not replaced a lot of those pumps. The ones I did replace were usually swapped off of a wrecked unit.I think maybe a few rebuilt ones, but being a mechanic, couldnt really say what the price was like since I wasnt buying it,its been 18 years since I was a mechanic anyway.Seems like its possible to change that seal,a pump man could tell you if he will.Ive done a lot of things I was told I couldnt do before, and there were a lot of times I got into something I should have left alone.Dont remember doing anything to one of those other than changing it.

There weren't even any cores available anywhere up here for exchange. I was told if I needed to do the pump in a 3204 Cat would be $2000.00. All I needed was a throttle shaft seal for $10.00 and I put 2 in thanks to some expert advice on the crawler forum. Anyway, I'm going by what my neighbor said and I know he checked all over the place. Maybe all the places figure they can charge more if someone really needs it. Dave

Looks like a Motorpal pump, and it will be if it is on a Zetor. You should have no trouble getting Motorpal parts and service in the U.S.A. because John Deere use Motorpal fuel injection pumps on the U.S. built 7*** series tractors.

What style of Bosch pump would this be?
I see there is a VE style and a A&K style. I was looking at manuals and just wanted to be sure this pump would be covered.
Thanks

Well I took the lift pump out and drained the oil and there wasn't as much fuel as I thought there was in there...so I'm going just keep an eye on it.

Do these pumps only hold a couple ounces of oil? I hardly added any to it and it started to come out the overflow tube and the sight hole.

Do any of you diesel guru's have a clue why it smokes so bad? (blue smoke)
Smokes really bad and doesn't get any better as it warms up.

It only has 800 hours on it and starts right up...good compression then right?
Doesn't smoke out of the crankcase breather.

Could it be like injectors, pump timing?

Thanks guys for the help.

I'm looking at a Agri-power 4000 next weekend. Very low hours, but clutch is locked up. Since this is older thread I'm looking for any info regarding this crawler. good/bad/stay away lol. Thanks.

You might do well to start your own post about this on the Crawlers, Dozers, Loaders and Backhoes forum. Describe you own case and ask your questions. Matt might be around under another name but it looks like he was a guest user and may not have been around since this series of posts 10 years ago.
