Finnished walling in my wifes scrap booking room in the basement. Trying to figure out a inexpencive way to keep it warm for her. Thus getting the clutter out of the dinning room in the winter :)
I already have the exauhst venting from a failed corn stove attempt down there. Not enough btu's to over come the walls sucking the heat in.
Would like to reuse the existing exaust if I can.

The room is 24 x 13 feet. Panneling on two sides and block on the two out sides.

Any ideas?

Kelly, can you get some inner insulation on them wall"s? Makes a HUGE difference. Mills fleet sells quite a few good direct vent heaters like you are asking about. Our old house we insuulated the full basement( 28x 52) with 1x2 furring stips and cheap 3/4 styrofoam strips between the furring stips on 16" centers. Really made a difference, and there are even better insulation boards for more $, but I"m a cheap one.

Yea I think I will be putting some thing on the out side walls. next winter on that though. need to move onto some of MY projects now.
If I can get a heater in there now though that would be good.

Got a 20,000 btu natural gas one at our TSC few years back. No electric or vent required. I am using it to heat my 30' x 20' garage. Well insulated, 50F is as low as it will set. At -14F few weeks back, never got below 46F inside! Greg

Those are not to code for inside a house. Not saying they don't work, but insurance, etc issues. Anyhow, something to look into before buying.

Unvented with his uninsulated exterior block wall, might be a _lot_ of condensation on those blocks...... All that humidity might not be good for the scapper supplies.

Yes they are allowed by code in most states. Last I checked there were only 6 states in the USA, and also most of Canadan where they are not allowed. I'm in New York and they are allowed here and work great when installed properly.

If you have any ducted heat that helps heat the basement a 1500 watt electric heater added to it would keep it plenty warm. I use a couple of these. one with a wall Stat in the basement and the other with the in unit thermostat set to 500 watts for a large dog house. The in unit thermostat would be fine and easier to install. A Quality heater available at lowes and other home improvement stores.

A free standing propane Stove with a blower on it would work real good too!

Friend has an unvented propane heater in his house.Cant use it,too much moisture. If you can vent it fine.Exhaust from propane will make you sick.Worked in a mill with propane powered forklifts, they stink...
