checking oil in JD D model

When I check the oil level I don,t know how much to add I can see down the filler pipe and oil is visible but I don,t get a feel for how high it is or even SHOULD be. There is no dip stick etc.The manual doesn,t really say what the level should be.

What kind of wanna be manual you got? Every real JD D operators manual would tell you to fill it till oil runs out the test petcock on lower RH side. If you changed the oil filter also then add a extra quart to supply the filter too. I&T shop manual capacities chart says 13 quarts for D.

BTW... early Ds don't have a oil filter only screen on oil pump so don't add the extra quart on those.
