Is Economy affecting antique tractor sales?

It would be surprising if it hadn"t both:
slowed sales: lots of people uncertain of the future, putting off unnecessary buying;
reduced prices: remaining buyers assuming anyone selling now more likely needs the money, and will take less to have some cash in hand.

My perception of the future includes increased inflation rates and some social disruptions.

If we get high inflation, cash is trash. Better to buy cheap durable goods now.

Social changes may lead to survival lifestyles and "back to the land" movements.

In either case, collectable or useful items should outperform the dollar.

I track some of the stuff I own on eBay. I have been pleasantly surprised with the recent prices on an IH 660 w/Elwood at $16,500 and an antique military Harley at $30,000. Just today, someone reported on the YT IH board that an unrestored Farmall SMTA with M engine sold at auction for $3950. That tractor is not even collectable.

You should also load up on diesel while it is cheap. I have 5000 gallons. It should last me 10 years. Maybe longer as I get older.

A Collector will still buy what he wants and pay the price. I havent noticed any decline. Those who always want to steal one for a bargin arent buying as they dont have the money to begin with. Then there are those who dont know the valu of one when they see it look at the replies on here whats my tractor worth or i know where one is and what should i offer those types are in a class by themselves. Another bunch i have a problem with my BELARUS or LONG. Didnt know they bought a White Elephant.

Definately, yes,,example JD G wide front use to be $4to4500 now $3000...JD B nothing under $2000 now $1000 to $1500 and these tractors at this price are not moving fast...For me if I cant eat it I wont buy it...

Some now but will have a big effect in the future as taxes and unemployment go thru the roof.Remember the worst years of the Great Depression were 1933-1937 not the late 20's that we all hear about.Ours is just beginning.

Well... I am also into Lionel Trains, Postwar 1945-69, and for some crazy reason, Those items that I normaly purchase on E-bay are "Sky Rocketing?? You would think it would be the oposite, but Someones got some MONEY, there has been an Increase in the last Yr for sure, to some degree it's along the same topic, of OUR TOYS Have a Goodn' Larry

Here's the way I see it from sale prices I have seen.

A real highly colectable, one that could be in a museum some where is still going high to colectors. If you had $20,000 to spend on a dust catcher to set in your shop a few years ago you still have it.

As for every thing else, seems like there has been a corection in price based on the needs of the buyer. A 8n that some one wanted cause granddad had one is not going to sell as much as it would a few years ago because Joe Sixpack is scared the factory is going to close. A Farmall H with cultivators is going as high in tobacco country as it ever did because tobacco growers are have'n to raise larger crops to break even and the more mexicans they can put to plow'n the faster it gets done.

Two years ago at auctions you could watch 8n sell for the same price that a 3600 in bout the same shape and better tires would bring. Now that is not the case as people are only buy'n the things they need and not the things they would like to have. Guess what I am try'n to say is the old tractors are bring'n prices based on their usefullness rather than the nastalga.

I think youre right, the real high end stuff is going to keep or increase in value. The "working" stuff is going to suffer. I am interested in a 30+ hp fwd, diesel. I see some reasonable deals for used, but the new ones have a warranty and cheap financing.
