case sc battery

If you don't get an answer. Go to the Case side of this site and post it to. Now I had a Case 1959 B that was possitive ground. But changed it to Negitive ground. Had to reverse gauge wires and a it did great.

I started second-guessing myself so I went to the shop to look in the Case factory service manual and in the battery section it talked about removing the grounded or negative battery cable first when removing the battery, so it is indeed negative. Jim

They came from the factory wired positive ground. But 50+ years later an SC could be grounded either way.

Bob, did there happen to be a serial # break where they changed the polarity? I believe the book I have was printed in 1947 (form 5630 6500 7-47)if I deciphre it right.

In the battery section it quotes "When removing terminals, remove grounded or (negative) terminal first". The illustrated tractor they show does not have hydraulics. Only the motor lift is shown so it's for whatever serial number was before hydraulics were put on them. Maybe I should have posted theis in the Case forum.

Now my curiosity is up. Jim

Jim,
My S series manual from 5-50 reads exactly like your quote. I might have read SOMEWHERE that the Racine tractors were different ground than the Rock Island ones. I wish I could remember if I actually saw this or just imagined it.
