Tractor Purpose

I am interested in purchasing a tractor out of state over a thousand miles away. The seller will provide shipping, and I'm going to purchase without looking at the tractor. What would be the correct way to pay for the tractor so I do not get ripped off if it is a scam. I have never dealt with the seller before, how should i go about this?

One thing to avoid getting ripped off would be to see if the seller has any references or feedback from previous buyers. This site has a feedback forum. It would be really beneficial to get feedback/references from the shipper as well. Make sure you have a written agreement of the terms of the transaction. I dont like sending work their way but it might be worth it to talk to a legal professional. Unless the tractor is rare or has something very special about it, you would probably be better off buying one that you can inspect in person.

these days i would not buy any tractor i havent personaly seen and driven if its a runner, too many scammers and dealers in stolen equipment out there , unless the seller can provide a bill of sale or some documented history on the tractor i wouldnt go for it, or id make a trip and test out the machine, its your money buyer beware

I'd try to find something closer to home. Buying sight unseen a thousand miles away is asking for heartache.

Remember; A fool and their money soon part!!

Sounds like you're getting cold feet or other wise you wouldn't have asked us what we think!

Maybe it's a good thing that you did ask us!

I got a tractor on ebay 2 years ago...I'm in Tn and the seller was in FL and the tractor was in Vermont..long story short talked to the seller ant the 2 previous owners...closed the deal and had it hauled here to TN and have had no problems..MAYBE I'M A FOOL OR LUCKY OR BOTH BUT i'VE NEVER CHEATED ANYONE AND NO ONE HAS EVER CHEATED ME...JUST FYI...Charles...PS his name is Curtis Meade and I think he'd be ok in ANY situation I could think of...

Like NcNE says below, you might take a look at buyer/seller feedback, at the bottom of photo ads pages on this site. You'd be amazed at what can go wrong in a transaction. Many things go right, too.

I bought a tractor last May in California sight unseen (e-bay) Talked to guy that listed it, He put me in touch with the guy that owned it in Texas and I live in Illinois. Took a chance , bought the tractor, sent a money order, went out to pick it up a month later and everything was good. I'd like to say I'd do it again but not sure i'd get that lucky twice in a row.

If you have your heart set on this particular tractor and the seller is reputable, he will have no problem with you sending someone to have a look. This site has good people on it from all over the nation. I know I'd be willing to help a fellow YT'er and drive an hour or so to go give a tractor a "walk around" while on the phone with them.
