Father-in-law has a Bolens g194 diesel 4wd tractor....it has a pedal operated diff. lock....
question is : Does it have to be actuated at a dead stop or can the wheels be turning ??

The pedal seems to be sticking up higher in the air than it used to be....trying to eliminate if I caused the problem or what needs fixed...
Thanks
Dave

I've engaged mine (IHC) on the go, but only at a crawl or a little faster in 1st or 2nd gear. No problems so far.

It may not engage with the wheels stopped. The two on my tractors won't engage at stop. But its not a good idea to engage with one wheel stopped and the other spinning at 23 mph or even 8 mph.

My larger Zetor says to engage at a standstill. I broke an axle before I learned that.

agreed ,ON ALL MAKES AND mODELS i EVER HAD THE PLEASSURE OF TRACTION LOCK EQUIPPED ,its a common sense thing ,, if you can feel the gears rattlin as you are engaging ,CLUTCH ,let the gear tumble in place ,DO NOT STAND ON THE LEVER ALL THE WHILE FEELING THE GEARS STRIPPING A LITTLE AT A TIME.........

The rule I always used was to not engage if a wheel was spinning-ok if moving and both wheels turning at the same speed. Engaging diff lock while one wheel is spinning tends to be very, very expensive.

I guess the consensus is how I used it.....I may have had a little slip but never engaged it while spinning away madly nor never heard any gear grinding...
..trying to figure out why the pedal is sticking up higher than normal...it will return to that position after being released...
