I want one of these tractors!

That is COOL! I do see the drive chains without shielding LOL! Maybe that is what doomed its production? Greg

That's about the coolest thing I have seen!!!

Wonder how many were made, just a few demos I would guess.

Wonder what sort of mechanism they had to brake, or stop power to one side for steering?

How hard do you suppose it would be to make one?

Big piece of pipeline pipe, wrap 1" square stock around in a spiral pattern. What would you use as the pointed end of the tube?

with a hemi in the 60s, showed it off in the swamps and everglades in Florida. It was a lot faster than the Fordson.

it was a good idea, i think i read on yt a year or so ago of a few mail delivery men using these on their route up in the northern states, somewhere i dont remember which one,

Seems like with the right size drums, that would make a great swamper or even amphibious machine. That would be a great advantage over questionable ice. And if you could rig up hydraulics for the drive, it would probably be more durable than the chains. Cool!!

There is/was a large ditching machine made that used the same concept. On hard packed snow and ice, I bet that thing would be like a Cat on an icy side hill. Sliding sideways uncontrollably to the bottom. There is no doubt a good reason why they didn't sell many. Dave

I posted the same thing last evening . Only got one response. Guess of the Title that it was "tractor related."

While it looks pretty neat, I'm sure theres a good reason it didnt fly...The first thing that comes to mind is drum and grouser wear, I havnt dealt that much with snow so Im unsure just how abrasive it is, secondly its seem to me it would take more power to overcome the skin-friction of the drums vs the trac system of say an Arctic cat. just my thoughts....OCG

After 20 minutes or so, I can only get the first frame of the video.
Got to love a dial-up connection  .
I'm hopin' satellite internet service comes down in price one of these days...
It's gettin' harder and harder to use, as web content goes up...
I usually click on a page, then go do something for awhile, then come back to look at it...
It's not the computer's fault, as I've run all the maintenance, virus, spyware software, etc...just a good ol' dial-up connection on rural phone lines...

That was neat. With today engineering skills and technology you'd think some one would make something similar, but more safe, efficient , and reliable. Hydraulic driven maybe.

I saw a clip of that thing years ago in School I think. It may have been an old Ford film or a film about arctic exploration, something like that anyway. It is real slick, but I bet it was a chore to convert from winter to summer and back.

I found out the Heidrick AG Musuem in Woodland, CA has one of these Snow Motors that was used to haul mail from Truckee to the Lake Tahoe area in the Sierra Nevada Mountains! (Thanks to a guy on the vintage chevy club chat room)
