These pics go back a few years now but they are still some of my favorites. There is something about the smell of that fresh turned prarie soil that you just cant explain.

Thanks, Bill. Looks like some long rounds there. Ditto on the smell of the dirt. You can pick up on that just driving by with the window down. Thanks for posting.

I like that second picture, black smoke. I rebuilt an 880 Oliver once that at the slightest thought of doing work would leave columns of smoke like it was a factory. The day I broke it in people told me I was the leading cause of air pollution in the county. Then I retimed the pump and it got better, but that first day was impressive.

Like back in the day when my buddy and i had two Farmall 450 D's Both had the wick turned up and both pulled 4x14 semi mounts and our ground is not flat . One neighboring farmer use to say that he could count the rounds around the field on a still day by the smoke hanging in the air. The first picture reminds me of a normal day plowing at my uncles farm as there would be no less then three tractors and sometimes five in one field .

Great pics. You can tell that black dirt makes 'em pull. I always figured that was good for those old tractors. I know here in KS when we pull in hard dirt it sure lets the guys know if their radiators are in good shape or not. I don't know how many people bring shiney newly restored tractors to plow only to find that in a round or so their tractor is hot and antifreeze is spewing all over their new paint. I can't blame them, but it sure sets off a panic.

Wish I had soil like that. Mice pics. My favorite memories of plowing from my younger days were. Neighbor to the south plowing under a 1/2 mile lone 80 acre feild with (2) John Deere 730 diesels and 4 bttm plows, loved the sound when the had to go down through the hollow. Across the road Tracy"s did all their plowing with a 656 diesel and 4 bttm plow. My uncle plowing a 400 acre feild with a 806 diesel turbo and a 6-18 plow with harrow.

spring plowing nothing else like it.the brothers i once worked for had a john deere 4520 pulling oliver 5-16s.
that old horse had a real bark when working hard
i would like to set on it again and make a round or 2

Ya it should be, thats black gold, a lot better than the clay and rocks around here! Keeps the rock pickers working

Here are a couple from the Ferguson Expo back in 2005 in Jordan, MN. The pictures were taken by Rick Weaver.

She's a good running ole horse and she dont look to bad considering she'll be 39 years old this year. If you get down this way come take her for a spin.

Love those pictures....I think tractors...all colors...are at their finest when they're plowing. Hey, the 4520 looks okay too. That sure is pretty farm land there too, as I look out the window at the snow covered fields I remember it'll be spring here too before long...Thank God!
