A suggestion that everyone (especially the ones that take the time to go into great detail) could use. And especially 2 finger typers like me.

Open up MS word (or equivelant),

go to modern view on the forum,

click search in the little box up top

use what you want, but I'd use "author"

type in "old", "Hugh Mccay", or whoever you are or would like to read

highlight the long detailed answers and copy/paste them into a word document

call it what you want (fuel pump?) and save it and so on til you get tired

Then, if you have a related question, check your files first

If you are on the answering end and have already answered a similiar question, just open your file, highlight and copy/paste into the forum reply.

Man!!! Am I on it or what????

Sir, Yes Sir!!! Worse yet, you type a whole book of an answer and have a symbol in there that the forum won't except and you loose everything and have to start over (sucks if you're old and forgetful  )

Well, its a tip, all right, but I'm not sure about the "handy" part. I'm a better typist than computer jock, so I'd have more trouble sorting out all the pointing and pasting and clicking than just typing the response.

Or if the site would run a FAQ and keep it at the sidelines like the index or featured ads ? because the same ole questions keep coming up once or more a week.

That would give the owner/moderator extra work that they may not have time to do. Poofing takes up a lot of time yaknow...

Us Daves must think alot alike. Been doing it for several years. I now use 10 different flash drives with different headings on them. One for tractors, one for machinery, and others such as health, repair tricks, etc. I save every post that I think my help me out in years to come.

I used to print everything, you should see my file cabnets! What a mess. I think there are 11 diffrent 4 drawer file cabnets.

I went through two divorces, want to ask about something purchased to date from 1978 after our house burned, when, where, purchase price?. The file cabnets have been worth their weight in gold---proving things in the court room.

If nothing else it will serve my kids right! having to sort all that junk, (for putting me in a nursing home some day).

But just so you know, thinking like me perhaps is not a compliment to you. just a kiddin

Often you can hit the 'back' button & your message will still be in the box, so it isn't lost. Some browser settings will dump it tho.

You can right-click, select all, and copy to clipboard to temp save what you typed before submitting it.

Coulpe ways to keep what you typed in case it gets dumped.

Dave2.....if you're that good with computers I'd think you could learn to type. A few typing lessons will take a lot less time than all that computer jiggling.

Since I don't read very fast, I appreciate folks that type kinda slow.

Reminds me of my ex-wife who was also a "hunt-n-pecker", but that's another story.

Good suggestion using MS Word as an "editor" to cut and paste.

For those that do not have MS Word on their computer, there are two other "editors" available.

Both WordPad and Notepad are already installed on every computer.

Click the Start button, select Programs, select Accessories to find these "editors".

Hope this helps.

That's why I hang out here.'cause there's so many folks that're smartern me......

Why thinskinned folks leave too. I'm a jack of all trades and master of none (maybe a couple, but ain't figured them out yet) so I teach and learn as the opportunities arise.

For the index typers..
This is how I do it..The fundamentals.
Look at your keyboard, place the left 4 fingers on ASDF... right 4 on JKL:; [the starting base]

use the left 3 fingers for QWE and ZXC then left index for R & T & G & V.
The right 3 fingers POI & M<> and right index for U & Y & H & N
and either index for B.
Thumbs for the space bar.
Memorise the keyboard,
QWERT POIUY
ASDFG LKJH
ZXCV MNB
. practise,practise,practise
Now shut your eyes and type.....Easy
But not overnight.
Slowly does it, speed will come with familiarity.

You lost me when you started talking about 3 other fingers.... Petty good with my thumb on the space tab though

Just kidding, I'll try that on one of my late night shifts.
