frozen transmission

I have a tractor that apparently got some water in the transmission oil between last winter and this winter and now it has froze with the cold weather and will not move. Does any one know of any product that could be used to thaw out the gear oil? A warm barn or shead is not an option unfortunatly.

Can ya get to electricity?

A space heater will do a number on it. Keep the snout back about 2 or 3 feet from the belly and heat 'er up. It'll thaw 'er out.

Been there, done that.

100W in the frozen sump of a machine parked outside in the winter?
A 4800W milkhouse heater would take hours if tarped in.

Magnetic heaters, space and/or torpedo heaters will work. Pull the drain plug when it is warmish and let only the water drain out, then capture the oil with the plug. If driven, the oil gets mechanically mixed and will still cause issues. JimN

Charcoal is fastest. Single layer in a metal pan.
After it gets going and the flames go out put it about 1'1/2 below tranny and keep an eye on it so any drips don't make it flame up.
Radiant heat is your friend in cold weather it's not bothered much by a little wind.
Probably take less than an hour.

Put a tarp over the whole tractor and hold it down all around with bricks, rocks, etc. Point a torpedo heater between the rear wheels and give it an hour or two. The whole tractor will be warm to the touch. Be careful. You can melt rubber with this technique.

Same problem here, with my Jubilee. Mine, however, was parked in a tobacco barn with a wooden floor and no access to electricity. I considered using a generator, but deicided to make that a last resort. Fire was not an option, with the wooden floor.
Here's was worked, really well:
I opened the drain and revealed the ice plug. Then I poured an entire tea kettle of boiling water in the gear box. Then I used a propane torch to melt the ice plug. All of the water and the gear oil came rushing out.

Replaced the fluid, and it ran perfectly, and our road is plowed.

Good Luck.
