O/T Frigid Dallas

I just got through feeding the horses, temp at the barn was 19.

Everything is white with sleet and frozen rain. The ground is frozen hard enough I didn't leave any tracks from the house to the barn.

Unfortunately the camera in back in the shop (4th time) or I would post a picture.

Our offices are opening at noon. Told James if it was above freezing by 11:00, I might give it a try. He changed my mind real quick. I doubt it will get above freezing by then. Its 8:00 now and still cloudy.

Another boring day at home.

Its a balmy 34 here in the central bluegrass. Got about an inch of ice and an inch of snow with more to come.

somewhere in the single digets (not sure which side of 0) here in SWMN. Had to put the charger on moms car this morning.
There talking mid 30's to 40's this weekend. HEAT WAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!LOL.

Here's a photo that I post on certain occasions.

Not really that cold, but you get the message.

Stay tuned; it is going to be another lonnnnnnnnggggggggg day.

Well, it's all the way up to -9 now... was -21 when I started milking. It's been -18 to -24 the last 5 mornings. And I get to put a new apron in the manure spreader today. (a heated shop sure would be nice!!)

KY-We were with out power for a while, 3-4 hrs, and it brings up the use of a generator and the need to be multi-fueled for future outages. Maybe small propane hot water heater and small stoves and solar/battery lights
We're presently totally wood heat w/ fans. Ran gen for lights , TV, heater fan, and occasionally refrig.
We're getting the second wave this morning.

Some generator usage from Northern tool.

The number to the right is start up surge.

Converted my Gen to Natural gas, solved the refueling problem. It's not difficult or expensive. Switch it to a small propane tank for welding.

what the he$$ 19 try -21 and thats not cold thats all you hear is how cold it is da- TV could sell a ice cube to a Eskimo. why are people so soft and this wind chill thing what is that just kills me. i work out side 5 days a week and have never missed a day because of cold. never use long johns and just a Carhartt coat i just don't get all this crying about the cold. give me -20 over 95 any day

Its a function of what your are accustomed to. Folks down here complain at 30. The 19 didn't bother me at all. I would go to work and I would get there just fine if one of the many people who think they can drive 50 mph on ice didn't wipe me out.

We didn't stay home because of the temp, but because of the people I mentioned above who think they can drive 50 or so on ice.

Heard this, not sure if its true or not - England was so enamored with his documentary they made it mandatory viewing in all the schools. Someone filed a lawsuit over it. In the resulting court hearing they exposed so many half-truths and inconsistencies the documentary was thrown out of the schools.

Yesterday Al Gore had to cancell a information meeting on global warming in Washington, because it was too cold. When are people going to wake up and realize this glogal warming is a bunch of bs. Stan

Global warming was promoted by approximately 30 UN scientists. There is a letter of dissent being presented to the UN with the signatures of over 652 scientists. That's 21+ scientists who don't agree with global warming to 1 scientist who does. So why don't we hear about the dissenters?

Hey James, I'm guessing that is a photo of H ell, Michigan?

I told my wife years ago I wanted to go there in the winter to take a picture of h ell frozen over. Looks like someone had the same idea, or maybe just used Photoshop :).

well did anyone notice what he was wearing at the inaugeration,an oversized black trench coat went all the way down to his ankles, maybe if he wore a hawaiian shirt someone might beleive him.just a thought!!!!

Nancy I used to live in Dallas and can back you up on the idiot drivers. I was in field service and had to drive during alot of ice storms. Went through the east Texas storm several years back. Made it through all of east Texas with no problems, but saw a lot of speeders off in the ditch. Only stopped to help the ones with the wife and kids in the car. Then chewed out the man for being a dum a##.

English judge ruled that if film was shown in UK it had to be stopped at some points and notice given that statements were lies acording to court decision, one stop was for a French scientist cited in film to say the filmmakers rearranged his lecture to be almost exact opposite of what he said and he was suing for damages - would get a share of any admission charged or 'donation' given by viewers for the libel. Theater owners and school film classes to sign acknowledgement of court decision before showing film- this would make them libel defendants also if they knowingly showed false statements in legal action pending or future- they could not claim immunity from suit by saying innocent, unknowing participant. Much safer to not show film. RN

It's all about the money..... Global Warming scam equates to grants from the government. The scientists are out of work too.

I lived down in Austin for the last couple of years. The drivers there panic when it rains. If they have freezing rain like they did last year, the whole city shuts down for 3 days. On the other hand, here in central Minnesota, we haven't seen above freezing temps since before Christmas. We have had a couple of -25 degree days, and one morning we woke up to -33. There wasn't much wind though, so it only felt like it was -10 or so.

Once heard it said that "[b:654c4848f0]There is nothing more dangerous than a Texan on ice."[/b:654c4848f0]

Did a little research and found that in Ft. Worth there were over 400 crashes and in Dallas there were over 200 crashes yesterday.

The colder temperature does not bother me, it is the idiots on the icy roads with driving IQ's at or below the outside temperature that scare the He11 out of me.

Better to stay home and stay alive and be able to ride on antique JD tractors on warmer weekends.

Worst Drivers in Texas

AlGore and his "global warming". One of the greatest scammeisters of all time with the greatest scam of all time.
Mr. Bob

Thanks for the compliment; I appreciate your thoughts.

This photo of "Easy" our 46A was also taken on Memorial Day 2008.

One July 4th, 2007, I came in from mowing about 6pm and turned on the evening news.

The news was featuring several 4th of July parades in surrounding cities.

Not to be outdone, I got the flag and fastened it to the umbrella holder on "Old John", Nancy's 48A, and had a one-tractor parade down the country roads.

<a href="http://s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa5/jameslloydhowell/John%20Deere%20Equipment/Memorial%20Day%20Tractors/?action=view&current=IMG_1447.jpg" target="_blank">

At that time, "Old John" had a glass-pack muffler that I installed to annoy Nancy's sorry, old, worthless, etc. city neighbor.

It was very loud and backfired extremely loud when going downhill.

Lots of hills in NE Texas so the parade sounded like opening day of squirrel season.

Dogs and kids were running through the yard and out near the road to bark and yell as I drove by.

Cats ran for cover and cattle either starred in shock or stampeded in fear.

Horses were "buckin and fartin" higher and louder that at the Huntsville Prison rodeo.

Older neighbors just waived and smiled.

Will never forget how much fun that was and hope it created some fond memories for all who watched the one-tractor parade.

Snow just stopped, 6" worth, now raining, godo news is, most of the trees and branches have already fallen, since that Dec 11th 2008 ice storm, so hopefully, we are good to go, or power outages are minimal with this one, same conditions 30-31 degrees and raining which is never a good thing.

My wife is a Texan - Ft. Worth.
She is currently a Central Minnesotan. She both drives on Ice with a vehicle of choice, Subaru Outback, and Harlick Figure Skates. She is "on ice" 25% of the daylight hours this time of year! No craches, no grief, and lots of students. JimN
