Good Evening All , Here tonite looking for some help with my Dads 7520 tractor. He was spraying this summer and the tranny went out.So that brings me to my two questions.(1) Can I split this tractor and fix the tranny myself?(2) Does anyone out there have a used transmission for this tractor or know of a tractor savage yard that might?Got quoted $4000.00 by the dealer to fix tractor ,but I know once its there and apart it will go up in $$.Keep in mind I'm real handy with a wrench plus I just got done doing the diffs in the Steiger Cougar ST 270 this last far.Well what do you think biting off more than I can chew or just go for it .Thanks Blaine

I re-did the transmision on our 8640. You have to split the tractor in half. I just went to the JD dealer and had them Zerox pages from their manuals on how to do it. Saved us thousands. It took my brother and I less than a week.

James was able to download the manuals for our balers from the website. You might see if you can download the manuals from the JD site.

I would fix it like the other guys say get the shop manual and take your time. Get the name of a JD tech that you can talk to directly if problems occur........ Just remember Safety First....it is a nice looking straight tractor tires too,,Good Luck

First off, define "transmission went out". What are the symptoms... depending upon the symptoms, it COULD be either the 2-speed "drop box" ahead of the tranny, or the tranny itself.

The tractor is stuck in 1st gear and I think my Dad said reverse is in the neutral spot.I was not driving it when it went out. Also it will not steer just wants to go in circles. The tractor just powered out and he stop. The dealer said it was the upper main shaft in the tranny and because the hydraulic pump lubes the tranny .They also think the pump is bad as well.Hope this give some more insight. Thanks for the replies.Blaine
