One legged farmers?

Not trying to be a smart aleck here. Somehow or other my teen age son "lost" one of his boots while on a part time construction job. I ended up with an almost new, Redwing boot. Non-insulated, leather, size 10D, Right boot. Thanks goodness the Navy now has to worry about him having two good boots.

I can go two ways here. I would offer to buy the left boot, to complete the pair. Or give the right boot to someone who could use it.

I used to know several one legged farmers around here and they had folks they would trade or give the un used boots too. They have passed on now.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Gene

most of the farmers I know lost their butts and their steering wheel sad but true can't sit down or get the thing to turn around

Kind of reminds me of something that happened to me. I lost my left foot in WW II, but got over it well, what with a fine wooden leg that Uncle Sam gave me.
When Ruth and i got married, we bought a nice bungalow out in what then was country, about 12 miles from town, and settled in. 2 weeks later, this area had a heavy snow, and the roads were all but impassible. I barely made it home Friday night from work!
Saturday morning, i heard noises outside, so i put on my Artics and coat and went out to see.
there was a bunch of neighbors, digging thru the drifts to open the road! I asked why, and they told me they had to get a young feller out to the main road, to a snow plow that could carry him out to the Drs. office, about 4 miles away.
So, i went and got a shovel and went out to help. One guy had come out in dress shoes, and was complaining of cold feet! Well-duh--
So i sat down, took off the boot on the wood foot side, and told him to put it on, and when that foot warmed up, to switch it to the other foot! So thats what he did, and he helped finish the job.
Fast forward about 30 years: I met him one day in a local bar, and he told me he remembered that day of snow shovelling. "But, he said, There was one thing about that day, and i still wonder about the fact that you loaned me one boot, and i switched it once in a while--but-you never did that! Why?"
I swung my wooden leg up, knocked on it real hard, then set it back down on the floor!
He turned his head and said:" I had to ask! thats been bugging me all these years!"
We had a good laugh over it, and he bought me a beer!
Today, i visited a farmer friend, who fell off a tall ladder, and the injury took his left leg off below the knee, just like mine!
By the time i left--he had perked up and was really looking forward to getting his new arificial leg, so he could get back to farming!

ok gene, gotta tell ya my one legged farmer true story. my uncle jul farmed and raised hogs. his wife was sick and they had a housekeeper lady come and help out. uncle jul had a wooden leg, lost in a thresher i think. well he was out doing chores and the housekeeper came out in the barn with her little daughter to see the baby pigs. the little girl was leaning over trying to pet one of the babys and fell in the pen. the sow got up and went after her, uncle jul jumped in the pen and grabbed the lil girl and handed her to the mom. well the house keeper didnt know jul had a wooden leg. as he is climbing out of the pen, the sow grabbed his boot and pulled the wooden leg right out of his pantleg. she passed out right in the barn!!!! she comes too, jul is standing there on one leg, hanging on the pen with one hand and and holding the wooden leg in the other...cussin at the sow!!!!

There are quite a few one legged soldiers and Vets. If you can't find anyone, ask your local VFW, American Legion Post or Mason Lodge.

when i worked for a ford tractor dealer we were unloading load of machinery when was colder than heck froze over.
when we went back in shop he said on a day like today i wish both feet were wood.

I either heard this story or read this story about about how someone's parents met.

The story goes that both grandfathers had suffered war related injuries and each had a missing leg.

One grandfather was missing a left leg and the other grandfather was missing a right leg.

These two men first met each other in a shoe store and decided to buy a pair of shoes and keep the one shoe that they needed.

This became an annual event with both men coming together and purchasing a pair of shoes.

On several occasions one man brought his son and the other man brought his daughter.

That's how the parents met one another and eventually got married.

I hope this is a true story.

I am not pulling your leg; I really don't have a good enough imagination to make this up.

Having some first hand knowlege of this deal, most of us missing a foot still need the other shoe to put on a prosthetic foot, if you can get it to fit on there....

For those who for many reasons can't use a fancy fake leg, I am sure they would be grateful for a free boot. Finding them is a little harder....

Pretty sure this one is true but I can't find the details tonite. I think it has been on Paul Harvey-The Rest of the Story.

The person born from the two getting together is someone very important in the history of our country.

You are correct!

Did a Google search on [b:654c4848f0]We Were Soldiers[/b:654c4848f0] and refreshed my fading memory.

It was the war correspondent that told the story.

Thanks for the information and setting this straight.

I have about a dozen of those knee-high rubber boots in my shed. All left feet. Guess I know I'm right-footed.

At Farm & Fleet they sell those boots , but they're not fastened together in pairs. One day I tried to buy two right-foot boots, but they caught me and wouldn't let me do that. I guess I wasn't the first guy to try it.
