massey model numbers

hi,
i have what i thought is a massey ferguson model 50, but the model on the tag reads "mh 50". does this mean it is a massey harris or did massey ferguson have a mh model?
thanks
andy

It is probabally an early MF50 when the deal between Ferguson and MH was not finalized. My dad had a MF50 ahd it has MHF cast into the rear axel trumpets. The MHF 50"s will have a scallop or dish in the hood rinning along the hood where it rolls over to the hinge and latches. A MF 50 will have a smooth hood.

Probably get a "better" answer on the Massey board, but based on my CRS memory, there was a MF 50, a MH 50 and a F40.....all essentially the same tractor and all made during the time the companies where in the process of being combined............

Same tractor..

When Massey Harris and Ferguson combined in 1953 they had a two line policy... Like Ford, Lincoln and Murcury cars. In 1956 they into duced the Ferguson F-40 and the Massey Harris MH-50. These are bacily the same tractor with color and sheet metal styling differences.

In 1958 the two-line policy was dropped and the Company became know as the Massey Ferguson company. The Tractors then were labeled the MF-50.

Thus you have a MH-50 made either in 1956 or 1957. And parts labeled for the MF-50 will fit.
