Ken,

Those functions are already part of Windows located in the system tools.

No use "downloading" anything.

Allan is on it. It is in the control panel menu
go to Preformance and Maintenance. Then go to Free up space on your hard drive. That will remove unused files and calculate space saving.
then go to rearrange files on your Hard Drive (from same menu) this defrags the drive and speeds it up (dramatically) but can take a few hours!!
Sams Club has a auto backup and storage external hard disk (USB2) that has 500 gig capacity for about 75$. what a deal. Plug and play easy install. JimN

I got one of those external backups 500gig also.

My question is how do I know it is backing up my files at 2AM each day.

I could write a book on lost data that I thought was backed up.

Is your used space shrinking as you loose data?? If you can remember something in particular that you lost, try doing a search. You might find it hiding somewhere.

It has been a while since I lost anything. Probably I make things confusing by taking the same file each day and renaming it so I will understand better, and in the event of a loss I could just shop around.

So like now I have so many files that are basicly the same, with a different name--and the only way to check is by opening each one up and looking very deep into it.

This problem was some what of a result of me not having enough memory to handle the files, so I would split them also. This adds to the mess again.

I hope with this back up, and some spot backing on diskes, and flashes I will be better off.

I still files on a floppy disk--horse and buggy style, but now I do not care to invest in a drive for them.

And thanks for the help

Look in it to find the files! Mine were there. You ccan also set it to back up a file or two in real time and watch it. JimN
