A friend of mine makes homemade wine and he has been telling me to come over and get some. I gave him a call and said I would like to get some of that wine."he said I'm on my way to the vet".He said the wine froze and the caps came off and the dog drank it "its dehydrated" So my wine tasting will have to wait...and so will his JD B.restore job.

I don't know if it would be worth the trip over for just that home made wine. Now if it were some good moonshine, that would be a different story. You guys could make that JD B restoration really come alive with a couple of swigs of some good corn liquor. But, it is really hard to find these days.

From what I understand it is like a vodka clear and more potent... someone else probably knows a lot more about it than I do they can explain.

ever clear is a grain alcohol. you can use it to spike punch and watermelon and stuff. here is a link to everclear. ohh, its also a rock band
ever clear

If he is making wine in an area that can get so cold it freezes, I wouldn't drink any of it. Fermentation is very temp sensitive, drinkers beware!

I think NASA puts the stuff in the fuel tanks for the shuttle.Gives it a little boost.Ever Clear is some mean stuff or at least it gave me one hell of a hangover.

When I was in college back in the mid-1970's in Terre Haute, In ...just minutes from the Illinois line...we were able to get "180 grain" and "190 grain", or 90-95 percent pure grain alcohol. It made some wicked 90-proof Jello, but it was hard to get the Jello to set up.

And some folks think "Jello shots" are a more recent invention.

Joe what was the Proof on that stuff if you remember. I make wine as well and use a hyrometer to check SG alcohol is measured by gravity.

Could you run the lawn mower on it?

I often thought of making a small batch.

The strongest wine I made was blackberry with a 9% by volume. A couple swigs of that and you need to turn the thermostst down. LOL :)

"Here in Minnesota, it's so cold that you have to put whiskey in your coffee just to keep it from freezing."

(Garrison Keeler on Prairie Home Companion last weekend)

The old folks here make schnaps out of about everything. When I first moved here, I was working on a fence next to a guy's garden house/hideway. He had me stop for a beer and wanted me to try his homemade schnaps. Got out a box from a kind of little cave dug into the back side of his building with several bottles labeled peach, plum, strawberry, and a couple of others. Everything was 100 proof and tasted like mogas to me, but he could tell you which was which. I finished his little tasting trip and forgot all about the fence.
They have something called Federweiss in my area a few weeks out of the year. It's the stage that wine is sweat and kinda milky looking before it gets the nasty dry wine taste (I'm a Boones Farm kinda guy).

That stuff goes down like koolaid. You can set and drink it all day, but get up and move around a little and you feel something cold on your shoulder. Look up and it's the floor.

Got so cold in Chicago in 84 that I ACTUALLY saw a LAWYER walking with his hands in his OWN pockets!!! Couldn't believe my eyes..!!! Charles

Been there done that with that wine that is milky lookin when I was overseas in 64 65 &66. Went to lots of local "winefests". I agree with something cool and smooth being the floor. Sometimes it snuck up and hit you right in the side of the head. Usually took about 3 days to get feeling normal. Ah, for the good old days.

First time I had it I was at work. Was on lunch break in the break room when a friend of the boss was visiting. I had no idea what it was other than it tasted good. After a few glasses, I stood up to go back to work. Guess what. ....

Turned out, the boss had set me up. Took my car keys and called me a taxi to take me home. Been almost 20 years and I still catch flack over it.
