O/T Ford F150

Does any one know of a good website to go for troubleshooting/discussion forum on ford trucks?

Here's the problem I'm having maybe some of you have had the same thing happen to you!

My 1990 F150, 300 cid 6 cyl w/5 speed idles and runs great while it's warming up on cold mornings. But when I get 2-10 miles from home it just quits.

I have found when it quits there is no spark to the spark plugs nor does the electric fuel pump work. Normally the fuel pump always turns on for a second or two when the key is first turned on but doesn't when it the engine quits and leaves me stranded and won't start. The engine cranks fine. After it sits for 5-20 minutes it will start right up.

I have replaced;

1. Fuel pump relay

2. Elect ign switch on steering column under dash.

Any help or information is greatly appreciated, I'm getting tired of being stranded.

Thanks folks

These folks are real helpful. Of course you'll have to sort out a little BS, but you'll come away with some quick answers and usually good ones.

Your problem sounds like the ign coil getting hot.

Good Luck,

We had a similar problem with a ford Taurus and we had to change the fuel pump, seems they kick out on high temp. (the sensor is on the fuel pump which is in the tank) The more gas in the tank the better it worked, and changing the pump fixed it, but it wasn't cheap!

John,
From what you posted,it"s possible the Ignition module is going bad on the distributor?
My 1990 F150 V8 did the samething for a while then one night going to work on third shift it decided to quite all together. Never forget that night it was cold and not a soul on the main road to hitch a ride to work. Walked three mile to get to work. Mike

I was having a problem just like it on my F250 and, not having a garage that could/would work on the vehicle, ordered a distributor and a coil. My problem was the coil, but could have just as easily been the module.

Rock auto is your friend in this case.

We have a mid eighties Ford 150 at work that was acting up somthing like that. New coil and cap seemed to fix it.

(quoted from post at 17:59:32 01/25/09) I don't think this would cause the fuel pump not to run!!

I missed that piece.... Is there a circuit breaker?

Have you tried the site I gave you? There are some real smart guys there.
