Just got through with the H and wanted to put it for sale. When I look at other web sites individuals show anything from 24 to 36 hp.I always thought it was like 26hp. Now I"m just like to see what you all think is correct, I don"t want to mislead anyone!
Thanks Alan

I'd say 25 hp range is about right. I don't know how any H is gonna put out 36 hp unless it has had some pretty major rework done to it. They are good work horses though. Comparing a good running H of 25hp against my good running D-14 AC of 35hp, the H would handle 327 New Holland manure spreader much better than the D-14. H's are one of the best tractors ever built in my opinion.

I consider the H to be 30hp. The M at 40hp. If you really wanted to know exactly what yours put out, you could always have it dyno tested. Then there is always fire crater/high compression pistons that give a little boost in power. It is a common thing for people to install those in the tractor during rebuilds. As an owner of an H with high compression pistons in it, I got to say I love them.

I worked on IH's in high school just for friends etc. We put high altitude kits in every thing. We could get 48 M 36 H 26 super A on dyno after 10 or so hrs. plowing, diddn't waste .28$ gas on a dyno!

Alan,
So many things could make it any of those HP, planed heads, Super pistons, lots can happen in 50-70 years since it was built and rebuilt. Advertise as a rebuild H and forget mention of HP, if a buyer asks tell them to refer to Nebraska tests.

Way too many variables to give a specific hp without a dyno test. I have a '43 H with high altitude pistons that doesn't produce outstanding power because it still has the low compression distillate head. My M was tinkered with to the point of dyno testing at 52 hp, and we farmed with it several years like that.

Use the Nebraska test HP. Brand new tractors are advertised and sold at one certain horsepower but they vary all over the board on the dyno. Jim
