Plexyglass on a OROPS

Do any of yall use plexyglass on your OROPS ? I have been rolling over the idea about using plexyglass on my backhoe since it didnt came with A/C or HEAT on it to help me get through the winter and spring time ... What do you think !! Thanks in advance !! Larry

Don't know about the plexiglass, it should work, but a real simple way to get heat is to find an old school bus. Take one of the under seat heaters and 10 feet or so of hose. simply hook up hoses one to your block and one to the waterpump. Heater fan and case are already complete, hook fan wire up to a toggle switch. Sit the unit on your cab floor, not pretty but works well. BTDT on my 1085 Massey

Old guy next door saw the pvc (?) strips we have on a couple of stall doors and bought a set for the back of his tractor. He likes it and he can still get on and off/reach through to hook stuff up.

I've done that with an old Allis backhoe that I had. Use plywood to enclose your rops and then cut windows out as needed. You can only get plexyglass in certain sizes, so you need the plywood to enclose the rest of the rops. I just screwed the wood to the rops post with sheet metal screws and then bolted the plexyglass to the wood. Make the holes in the plexyglass oversize and use fender washers. You do not want to overtighten the bolts. The plexyplass needs to be able to barely move or else it will crack at the mounting point. For the windsheild I used a steel frame and put regular glass in it.
Paint everthing and it will hold up to years.

have used it on my skidsteer since 94. just don't faten it real tight and get the good stuff'can't remember the good stufff called (Lexan) maybe there is a very big difference and if you cut it do that before you remove the protective coverings on each side.

Farmer Alf has the idea, with the heater from a school buss. While we are at it - How about using the glass from the back end? It's safety glass, and will outlast the plexyglass.

Try to found a local company that handles Lenox plastic glass. It's alot stronger then what you buy from the hardware. I have some water jet cut for my on skid steer for side windows.Little truck camp tape and four bolts works great. And was half the money Gehl wanted for them.

Help me out guys....NO...NO...AND NO! Machine ROPS glass is like auto glass when it breaks it breaks in a billion little pieces so they wont hurt the operator.

Plexi- glass and Lexon if broken has a tendacy to snap in big sharp dagerous pieces. Dont need that floating around you during a impact.

Back windows on skid steers use plexiglaas/lexan as an emergency exit. There are 2 kinds of safety glass. One, like an automobile windshield is laminated glass with a sheet of plastic in the middle that holds everything together. Car windows will use tempered safety glass. It will break into a million pieces. Lots of people use plastic windows on equipment. When using a concrete breaker on a skid steer, they recommend a cab with a plastic window. Plastic will scratch a lot easier but you shouldn't have any problems using it. Look for a type that is guaranteed to not yellow for 5 or 10 years. Dave

One other material possibility.

We just installed a greenhouse at the school I teach at. The end walls are made of a material about 1/7" - 1/2" thick that is basically a plastic insultated glass like honeycomb material. I believe it is called a twin wall end panel. It is pretty easy to see through and should keep heat well. If you could find some of that it might work quite well and should be safer during an impact.

It is expensive, but the last time I checked so was Lexan.

Here are a couple links about it.
