3 rib tire pressure

ive got a jd 301 with a farmhand loader on it, the tractor came with some kind of brand x 3 rib front tires i have looked all over both sides of then and cant find recomended air pressure, i currantly have inched up to 40 psi as when i pick up maybe a yard of dirt it mashes the tires almost flat, the bucket is a 2 yd and thats way too big for the tractor so i take 'little bits' what do you guys recomend for tire pressure?

Look for the ply rating on the sidewall 4ply 35psi, 6ply 50psi. if you have 4ply tires you need to buy 6 or 8ply with a loader.

A yard of dirt weighs as much as 3000 pounds.
or as little as 2500. So the issue is not tire pressure, but reasonable limits on the amount you decide to move at one time. !!!! JimN

ditto what 504 said.. 4ply tires bite for loader work. best thing I ever did on my 850 was treat it to some multi-rib 6 ply tires and keep the old 4-ply triribs as spares.

Don't know anything 'bout your tractor, but I run 55 lbs in this little outfit and usually 75 in the big tractors.

Are ya sure it's a 2-yard bucket? That would be a heck of a lot of dirt.

hi allan, yes its a 2 yarder, when we got this tractor the previous owner had just had the whole loader put on new, why such a big bucket i dont know other than it works well for the manure but i know dirt is whole lot heavier, [ i haul dirt and gravel for a living] so when im in dirt i usualy just get a half a bucket at the most i dont want a broken spindle on the tractor, the tire thing has me fooled as i thought 40 psi would be more than enough if not too much, im going to look after sun up and see what the ply rating on them is, i got some 16 inch tires off one of my pickups they might be better on there the tractor tires are pretty new, but im sure there the cheapest thing the last fella could find to put on it , i still love that M you got

Ericlb,
Remember overloading a tire is the same as running one low on air pressure.

A two yard bucket does seem very large for a tractor or it sounds like it the way you describe it.

I forgot to mention that tires WILL NOT have the recommended tire pressure on the sidewalls, it will only have the max pressure/weight limits for the tire.

just got back in the tires are 6 ply rated, if i can get the wife to take a pic on her digital camera i'll post it the loader is a farmhand 545 with a 76" bucket
