Ok guys before I go insane, how do you replace the blower motor on my 1994 sierra 1/2 ton. I can see the motor, fell it etc, but how do you get that stupid sound guard off, with out just ripping it off?

Thanks

You actually have to cut it off, on the top under the glove box there should be a line on it that says you have to cut it there, it is a straight line from front to back on the top of the motor.

If it"s like the S-10 Blazer I just replaced, you"ll have to take off computer, battery, coolant recovery tank, and front fender. Maybe more to get these parts off. That gives you access to the front of the firewall. Then there"s the plastic cover over front of heater/fan assy. They have a line surrounding the blower, where you have to cut the plastic cover. Once you get that cut off, then you can access the blower motor. Plan on a whole day, if you get it done sooner, you lucked out. Hope you have a heated garage!

Take glove box liner out, unplug computer connectors and remove computer and it's mounting bracket. The shield(sound guard) has square holes that fits in bosses on top of the heater case and is held in place by the computer bracket.

You also need to remove some trim from the pass side lower dash and remove the lower inst. panel bolt to pull dash away a bit to have room to remove motor.

I just replaced one last weekend in my 95 half ton. It's totally accessible from inside the cab. Take out glovebox for better visablity. Take all the screws out of sound cover and yank straight down and out to the left. Throw it out the door as far as you can. Do not re-use it. My replacement motor was painted black instead of galvanized, like the original, so it does'nt show as bad.

Ray,You really took the fender off? Why?

I replaced two S10 blowers w/ac last week and took an hr. each taking my time.Book time is 1.4 hrs. One was a 99,the other a 96.I admit they're tight, but not THAT tight!

PLEASE find the discarded sound padding and send it to me!

I just replaced my SQUEALING OEM motor with a 'quality" chinese replacement from NAPA and it's so noisy (sounds like brush noise caused by a poorly machined commutator) I can't stand it!

Some vehicles would lose memory settings like minimum idle speed, but not this one.Generally harmless(when done properly) on all vehicles.

Beleive it or not, static electricity is a solid-state component(as in a computer) killer.
