Another truck question...'04 Dodge Ram 2500

I"ve found a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500, 5.7, quad cab, automatic, 3.73 gears, 4wd, tow package, pretty much loaded(no leather or sunroof), with 158,000 miles. What kinda of dependabilty should be expected out of this truck with this many miles(if it"s been took care of??). It is a one owner and the truck looks good in the pictures I"ve seen, just a few dings and dents, nothing major, actually looks pretty good.

What about the auto?? Should I be concerned with that many miles?? Anything else that I need to be looking at on it? I"ll admit, I"m much more familar with the Chevy"s, but this seems to be one clean truck. What about mpg"s?? I"m guessing the 5.7 is pretty thirsty. And of course, what"s a fair price?? As always, thanks.

Maybe it's just me (cause I don't go anywhere) but that seems like a lot of miles for that year. Of course the most important thing to ask is how those miles were put on? If thats a lot of highway miles then maybe not so bad. Short Trips seem to kill cars and trucks. Did this person tow a bunch with it? If so what was they pulling? Was the truck over loaded most of the time? Its hard to say. Some things run for ever then some don't. Guess its just how lucky you are.

have same truck but a 2006 214,000 miles + a few more 100 pull trailer a lot for me it's been bullet proof. just normal things ball joints 160,000 new rotters at about the same time u joints front end and all drive shafts just as a precaution at about the same time

I have this same year truck with a 5spd. It has 62,000 miles on it. I have had no problems with it. It has only had the oil changed and the plugs replaced.
It hauls any thing I want. I have a 12000 lb dump trailer and it has handled any load. I also hauled my Bobcat with it on a 1000 mile trip with no issues.
Gets an average of 13.2 MPG.
Now that being said I don't know how it would be with that mileage. I also am not a fan of automatics in any vehicle.
But would I buy another one? The answer is yes.

yeah get one of those gutless 6 litre chevs., you will get to know every clerk at every gas station after replacing the rear bolt on the ex. manifold that breaks off on every one. 350 chev. people used to bash 351 ford owners for mileage but when they both left for the stockyards with a trailer load of cattle the ford guys had already unloaded and had dinner before the chev. made it! have an 01 Dodge dsl. and would buy another Dodge.

HUH ? Dodge parts are easier to get then GM parts. At least here in Ohio. Dodge has a warehouse in Cleveland and the GM one is clear down in WV on the eastern edge. but if they both go belly up OEM parts will be no more for either but there is a BIG aftermarket for both.

Well the dealer must think it"s an awfully good truck....$8900!!!!!! 3 years ago I bought an older Chevy(1995) half ton with only 95,000 miles on the road for $6000. Now it was a 5 speed and regualr cab, but it had 65,000 less miles on it. The way I see it, dealer is on crack...

Haven't had trouble getting parts for any GM yet-hopefully that continues. I had a '97 full size Dodge cargo van. Got it in May of '98, had 145,000 miles on it! Heater blower resister went out, took the connector with it! You see, in their infinite wisdom, in that year, and that year alone, they put the resistor under the hood-right underneath a metal AC line-are you starting to see a problem here? Yep, condensation was dripping on it-and they did not have that connector. No salvage yard did either, was the only model, and year, that set up was used! Then the high speed fan connector-goes direct to fan, not thru resistor, shorted out. Guess what-they did not have this one either. Grew tired of this, gave up on Dodge. Greg

Dodge musta copied GM as GM vans had the dist. cap under the AC lines. Guess what ? engine missfires. I work at a GM dealer so I know they have alot of crazy ideas. Trouble is all the companies are copying each other and crazy ideas/designs are all to common with all of them.
