what is the name of this vine?

Does anyone know what the name of the vine that produces these pods is? I know it grows in the tops of trees but I can"t figure out which tree it"s in despite years of picking up these pods in my yard. Usually one half will fall and weeks or even months later the second half will fall. I have collected some while blowing leaves and been able to match some of them up over the years. I"d like to find some info on the web about the vine but without the name I can"t find anything. I"m in Greensboro, NC.

We have one of those vines near the patio. Its a Trumpet vine. The humming birds like the nectar from the blossoms. Hal

Here's one of those humming birds. They go from this sugar water feeder to the blossoms on the Trumpet vine. Hal

With respect, Virginia Creeper has five leaves and tiny flowers and small berries. It often is found on walls and houses. It has tiny little glued on sucker like feet that are very difficult to remove from all surfaces. The reason I know is that I had 800 pounds of it on my home ruining the woodwork, and destroying the value. Trumpet vine won't do that. I had a two year struggle with it, so my attitude is touchy on the invasive vine. (certainly not at you, Old. JimN

I think matthies got the real name but trumpet vine rings a bell with me now and the pics on Wikipedia etc confirm that's what I'm looking for. Must be high up in those trees cause I haven't seen any flowers but I did find one on the ground once after a wind storm. Thought it was plastic for a moment even after picking it up. Kinda a tough flower.

Old, that's not at all what I think of as VA creeper (I realize you are repeating what a supposed expert said). VA creeper as I know it is like a 5 leaf poison oak, then again I looked on Wikipedia about VA creeper and they talked about berries and red/burgundy leaves in fall and I've never seen that on what I call VA creeper.

Thanks everyone!

Trumpet creeper a.k.a. cow itch vine it is. One of the toughest weeds in the south to get rid of. Good luck if you want to get rid of it.

Trumpet vine grows on some fences along the interstate, here. I have seen Oriental people picking off the orange flowers, and filling many bags with them. No idea what they do with them..

Not so quick, seems like there is a climbing milkweed. I would need to see more of it. But I would not discount the milkweed. Matter of fact I would just about bet on it.
