This tractor is 22.9HP.I need to buy a rotary cutter for it.Is a 4 foot ok or should I buy the 3 1/2 cutter? I would rather sacrifice 6" and have more cutting power if it is a problem. Also,do I need weights on the front if I have slightly hilly terrain?

I didn't even know they made rotary cutters smaller than 4ft. Probably the 3 1/2ft since thats a really small tractor! How wide is your tractor?

Do you need front weights? Only if you find the front end is too light.

Unless you're cutting really tall, thick grass, I think you would be able to run a 5 ft. without much trouble. Dave

I have a Deere 2305, same motor size and tractor weight as the MF 1225, I think. I have a 4' cutter and I can use it no real problem except that when the cutter is raised it makes the tractor kind of tippy on the front end cause of all that weight on the back.
My 2305 Deere weighs 1500 lbs. with the 1.1 liter diesel.
Hope that helps.
