Son had a larger caliber, repeating bolt action available, that we regularly used for deer hunting. Normally we both carry a .243, or .240. Both have far more firepower than the .223. Bullet is twice as heavy, traveling at about the same speeds. That's why I had to do sone kicking!
Gotta say, however, the Nosler Ballistic tip load I had made up for varmints did a job on the small buck. Was good eating. And the deer herd needs trimming around here.
