Deutz 13006

Looking at a Deutz 13006 tractor to do some heavy tillage work -- I farm about 300 acres and am looking for a better heavy tillage tractor than my AC 7000. My AC will do most of the planting, spraying but I'm looking for an extra 30-40 hp to handle my chisel plow without over working the tractor and give me a good 2nd tractor. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with these as there is one advertised locally and its a lot less (1/2) than a comparable US made tractor. It has 4wd. I have an old AC/Deutz dealer 10 mi away that can get parts. I've always had the odd ball equipment in the neighborhood -- am I going to far?

Don't know about the 13006,but a neighbor bought a 10006 new. Thing was in the shop so long the first year that he had it,I'd forgotten that he'd bought it.Right after he got it back the first time,he was going down the road and it started to bog down. He stopped, took the oil fill cap off the transmission and smoke rolled right out of it. When he finally traded it off on a 7000 AC,the drawbar was held on with a log chain and binder because all the threads were stripped out of the bolt holes in the casting. Personally,I wouldn't touch one. Maybe somebody else has had a better experience.

Local welder was the dealer here for many years. When Deytz Allis got together he refused to build 1/3 million shop and stock up on floor plan. He still does repairs on them, and there are many satisfied owners around here. BTW, Deutz is the only tractor I know of where the #1 cylinder is at the rear of the engine. Keep that in mind when timing it. They are very fuel efficient.

Used to be a 13006 in the township along with half a dozen others (up to DX series) and never heard of any serious reliability issues on the brand. Comments I've heard from the owners are keep engine area clean (air cooled) and parts tend to be quite a bit more expensive on repair jobs. Have heard opinions they are not as durable if used continually under heavyload (don't know if that is true) as most North American tractors. Would not be afraid just because it is a Deutz.
I guess it comes down to money. If you're looking at around close to 10G, I would also look at White or Ford TW. It will not be the prettiest and you may have to work the auctions hard but you might be looking at a better parts/resale picture down the road. Do you have the skill/ patience for a project tractor. Seen some good buys that the major components are good but does need some minor attention.
Maybe somebody else might know some possibilities I have not thought of.

I've heard that Duetz 130-06 are expensive when it comes time to rebuild the engine. Why not an Allis Chalmers 7040, 7045 or 7060? Those are very cheap and reliable. If you would like to spend about twice what a 7000 series goes for, you could get yourself an Allis Chalmers 8050 which are far nicer and have 150hp or an 8030 to have 130hp. The 4wd in the 8000 series is awesome.

I have used a Deutz 10006 quite a few times and it has it's ups and it's downs. He(the owner) bought it ten years ago for around $5000. Had a knock and figured he would have to rebuild the engine. So far he has only rebuilt the infectors. Has 18 gears. Big displacement engine. Good raod speed. Large cab that is just as noisy as any other cab from that era. Foot throttle. 2 doors. Over all It's a very nice tractor for it age
