Case 870 engine in a super 400?

Is it possible to stuff a 870 case diesel engine in a 1957 case super diesel tractor? If so how hard is the transplant, and will the engine fit under the 400 sheet metal?

Intake and fuel pumps are on opposite sides from 400 to 70 series. Might have issue with fan/water pump as 70 series is not in the block. (might need to lengthen 400 hood and raise radiator) Not sure if the bell housing is the same. I know early 830 bellhousings were the same as 800's. With that same thought the 400 and 870 very well could line up. Probably have smaller or larger bolts.
Sounds like a lot of work but anything can be done.

There may be some small issues to deal with but the housing and front end will bolt up no problem, Hardware sizes are right. You may have to make a hole for the steering shaft to go through the left side of the block. You may have to make brackets for a power steering pump if so equipped. That will be a nice swap. Keep us posted, find a turbo setup off a 400 skidder and have even more fun. mEl
