Hollywood farm movies

We have talked a bit about this in the past, I am wondering what Hollywood has made for movies that have a true rural touch. I like to watch old westerns but I long to find some 1940's-50's era movies that have a farm plot with, you know, combines, tractors and farm life. Something that was not shot in a Hollywood backlot.

There was a movie a while back, and not too bad. "Cider House Rules" starring Toby McGuire(sp?) and it was written up a few years back in Green Mag because a few vintage JD tractors.

Brian, rent a few episodes of All Creatures Great and Small starring James Herriot as a country vet.

Can't beat the authentic and rural depiction of 1930-40's farm life in the "dales". Awesome scenery !

And lots of large animal close ups only real farmers get to see, if you know what I mean.

"Jacob's Harvest" Is a pretty good farm movie, although not 40's and 50's, more like 80's.

Try "A Painted House". filmed in Lepanto, Arkansas and the cotton fields around it.
Based on a James Grisham novel.

"In The Heat of The Night" has several scenes at the mayor's business which is an I-H Dealership. The police Chief must consult the mayor and they meet in the shop..lots of activity, new 806, machinery , combine used tractors outside, also some scenes of cotton harvesting in the rural area..one of my favourite movies.

Back in the 80's there was a movie called "Country".It was a true farm movie,and a good one too.

A very very good movie starring Paul Muni was (Iguess) made in the USA? It's about the Chineese farmers in good and very bad times. Sorry but no machinery other than hand type that I remember. The name of the black and white movie is The Good Earth. David................

I've got that video & it has interesting scenes & machinery. It is set in WW II so the machinery is 1930's vintage.

What about "Amber Waves", I think is the title, starring Dennis Weaver. It's been a long time since I saw it, but I think he was a travelling wheat harvester - lots of combine shots. I remember him struggling to get bank financing for his combines.
