The entire story is posted in the Oliver, Cletrac, Cockshutt section. If interested read it there and would appreciate responses why a factory installed mechanical fuel pump would be replaced by a PO an elec pump, fuel flow regulator and in-line filter???

A mechanical fuel pump will replace the non-functioning elec model.

Thanks for any info.

Why replace OE mechanical fuel pump with elect.? Cheaper, no down time if a replacement is needed and makes bleeding out air a breeze.

On my 76 chevy pu it's wonderful. Used mayby once every two weeks, the fuel would dry from the carb. and the engine would need to crank for 30 seconds just to fill the bowl before it started, if the battery lasted that long. Now turn to on for 2 seconds before cranking and it starts on the first rotation everytime. There's was nothing wrong with the original pump.

Electric pumps are made to push fuel, not draw fuel. Mechancial pump IS designed to draw fuel.

Mechanical pump in the OC4 works fine, is reliable, and fairly cheap - for any of the Hercules engines.

I add that if you've got an OC4 diesel, you can screw up the diesel timing advance with an electric pump that runs too high a pressure.

Accept your explanation but question that an elec fuel pump is less expensive than a mechanical. Mech from Landis Z only $90 and no idea cost of an elec pump.

Out of curiosity I took the elec fuel pump apart. Innards were full of gummy substance that might have been a rubber gasket or washer at one time. Give amount of that stuff no wonder the pump failed. Thanks for your response.

Engine is 3 cyl gas, not diesel.

Out of ignorance I question Circus' statement an elec pump is less expensive than a mechanical pump? From Landis Z mech pump cost is $90.

I dismantled the elec pump, found innards full of gummy pieces of what might have been a rubber gasket or washer? With those pieces floating in the interior no wonder the elec pump failed. Might have been repairable but chose to go mechanical this time.

Mech pump should be here by middle or the week, OC46 loader running and ready to deal with the next snow storm that makes our steep driveway impassable unless hand-cleared with shovels.

Thanks for the reply. Have a gooder in 2009.

PS: Tbhis summer wife and I made a run up W and N coast of WA. If I recall your location we should have stopped by, got acquainted and checked your extensive inventory of old iron.
