Does any of yall use lucas oil stabilizer in a 3020. Does it help the engine and stop the excess smoke and blow by. Also do lucas oil products make anything to stop a hydraulic leak around a steering valve. I know it should be rebuilt but im short on money. Thanks! JD

yea i use it in all my international tractors and it does help and it gives you better oil pressure to. can't believe you like john deeres haven't you heard collecting tractors is like eatting watermelon, you keep the red and throw away the green

My 3020 has been a dang good tractor since I bought new. I like it but its getting time for overhaul and now im trying to buy some time and save as long as I can. Maybe it will make it for this upcoming disking. There is an IH 806 for sale for $5,500 but I know nothing about them.

lucas makes a product called "hydraulic booster' for the system. not a cure-all in every problem, but it will soften seals/o-rings. have seen it work wonders on dump truck cyls.

I am using Lucas Hydraulic Stop Leak and Booster in a Farmall 504. It helps tremendously on small weeps and leaks. I am using it at about 20% Lucas, 80% Hydraulic Oil. Though nothing is going to stop a severe leak where repairs are needed. Cost about $25.00 a gallon. I bought a case (4 - 1 gallon jugs) on EBAY for about $90-$100 shipped.

With the way parts prices keep going up, I don't know if you're saving anything waiting to do an overhaul. JD's need overhauls? Listening to some on here, you'd think they never need anything other than fuel and oil. LoL Dave

Haven't you been following the news as to what is found in watermelon skin... you might want to rethink throwing it away!

Deeres need rebuilds? Yes.
This fall, we were lucky enough to pick up for about 9 grand a 3020 that had a new coat of paint AND 134 hours on a rebuilt engine that the owner had put $5,500 in. It'll last forever, with the way we use it.

Lucas is mostly just very thick oil. That's not necessarily good for getting oil to spots that need lubrication when the oil is cold. And the brakes depend on an oil that doesn't wreck the disks. Fixing brakes from the wrong oil is as much trouble as rebuilding the engine.

If you cannot afford the cost of repair but want to continue to use the tractor, spend your money on on some cheaper brand of oil to run in the engine and hyd. system(providing it's compatible with with wet clutches/brakes) until you CAN afford to repair it properly............

Lucas is a marginal viscosity improver at best. Anyone with a mechanical background will attest, internal engine wear is not remedied with an additive...........

As for the steering valve, if the leak is from a seal an additive MAY help to slow the leak by somewhat "rejuventaing" the seal but will not cure a broken/cracked line or a loose fitting...........

I wouldn't be dumping anything in the hydraulic system other than the appropriate grade oil approved by/for Deere. IE. Hyguard or it's equivelant.
Brake jobs are expensive and the bits that disperse through the back half of the tractor are nasty to remove. It just creates a lot of problems.

Beyond that, what I know of Lucas engine oil additives is that they have a heavy base stock that improves viscosity somewhat. In addition they have larger quantities of the same additives that any good diesel engine oil uses; just that they use a bit more.
Personally I wouldn't worry about blow-by whatsoever. I wouldn't worry about oil consumption too much either so long as you keep the level up. From what I've seen, an engine has to be pretty bad to use more than a quart of oil in 100 hours use... and if it's worse than that, it's probably time to drop a kit in and be done of it. The excess fuel you use from running a worn out engine will eat a big hole in the price of an engine kit pretty quick.
I'd suggest you leave the additives alone. They're just there to help empty your pocket.
