OT - Kerosene prices

I find it hard to believe that "Undyed, Untaxed, Kerosene" can be priced at $3.60 per gallon, when Taxed Diesel is at $2.79 per gallon.
I am tempted to drive to the local airport and load up on Jet Fuel for my shop torpedo heater....
Is it the same where you are?

yup, ours is high here in north central illinois, 3.85 gal. my last torpedoe heater gave up the ghost, and i been running a propane salamander now and then. been looking at a reddy heater at big r"s that will burn kerosene, 1 and 2 diesel , jet fuel, exc for about 300. was thinking about running a line from my 1000 gal propane tank for the grain dryer over to the shop. maybe i"ll wait for spring.

last i bought here in sunny canada ( 2 weeks ago ) was a $1.55 per litre do that math
about x 4 for amreican gallon x exchange rate
pretty g@#%#$$dam expensive
gas which is refined & taxed is 65 cents a litre
we are gettin hosed pretty good

i prefer kerosene in the parts washer. diesel just stinks a little too much for me.kerosene seems to clean better. lot of guy like mineral spirits too, never tried it.

Well, I just checked with local Airport, Jet-A is $4.25 per gallon. So I guess I'll stick with Kero...
I have a feeling that the price lags the downturn in Crude oil price by quite a long time, compared with Gasoline & Diesel.

Just checked with the Issaquah Grange supply. They USED to sell it at the pump. No more. They have it in gallons for $12.99!!!
makes the $40 I paid at Fred Meyer for 5 gallons seem reasonable.

It's all supply and demand. Very few places around here carry kerosene at the pump; it runs around 3.50 to 4.00 a gallon when you can find it.

I am always worried about fire. I clean parts by hand in a stainless steel pan. I dont like the idea of a spark with my hands and arms covered in gas. Done it a million times, but getting more cautious in my old age. I have mixed various blends of diesel and gasoline and that works well. Figure the diesel will keep the volatility down a little

42.99 for a 5 gallon pail at local TSC. I burned about 100 gals of diesel in a torpedo heater while I was building my shop in Sd in Jan and Feb. Not even a hint of soot on a pickup parked in there.
It was an old heater I bought at a sale. AFTER I had "used it up" I bought the rebuild kit at a farm store and it operated like new.
Now I have a 150k Reznor propane heater that allows me to bake potatos in the shop for a lot less money.

Why do you guys stick to kero?
#1 diesel is just as good and 1/2 the price.
I can see it if you are heating a living space but not for a shop.

There is more btu s in a gallon of diesel or no 2 home heating fuel that a gallon of kero, but the kero cost more. I would only use kero if absolutely necessary.
