So what are your opinions on the financial market, credit exc? I think we are far from the end of the bottom.
Also what are your opinions on the tractor sales/prices? How much more do you think tractors will drop price wise, or how many rare, common, restored, junk, or OK tractors will come for sale?
For me it has been hard to judge the tractor market but expect tractors of all rarity, and conditions come up for sale a bit cheaper. I also think people have been holding out for high or fair prices just like before we got Our Selves in this mess.
Has things been selling on YT or Tractor House? I have not been selling much lately so its hard to tell.
Just wondering what other people are thinking in other parts of the country.

Things are not selling very good for me. I have even dropped prices far below what other similar things are listed for and still no go.

I think the high dollar tractors are bringing good money rare or ser.#1.The run of the mill tractors are going from 500 to 1500 dollars cheaper and still are not selling as well location is important too. My theory at this point is if I can`t eat it, I`m not buying it.(survival mode)

Chris another reply! I think things might change after the holidays and weather gets nicer and poeple get their taxes done. They might have some extra money. Some guys on here said somethings at auctions are still selling high. I see Items on ebay getting relisted 2 to 3 times and I dont know if they ever sold........... Thanks for your post!

I can't belive how much some people want for some of these tractors. I'v been looking for a year & half for a 90 to 120 hp tractor that we can justifie. All those old 40 to 30 year old tractors are just as much as 20 year old tractors. I don't care what kind you like Green off Green (JD) Red, White, or Case. I guess like every body else there still able to get parts for these older tractors, that is why we would like to have one. Why are they so much cheaper in Canada.

This economy has people scared. Not only are they not buying, they're not even looking! Tractors for sale now are getting no attention. It's like trying to sell great sweet corn the 28th of the month when checks arrive on the 1st.

Here's my take. I think this current economic situation has alot of people asking them selves if they realy need something before they buy. Late model row crop tractors with low hours are in real high demand. If you bought a 200 hp tractor 3 years ago and put 1000 hours on it you just might get more out of it now than you paid. It's the smaller and older tractors that have fallen off. Where some one might spend their last dime 3 years ago to buy a tractor like granddad had, today he knows it might me a while before he finds another dime.

Just the veiw from my hill.

Been to some tractor auctions recently, and there seems to be no shortage of money in this area. People are still buying and prices are good.

I agree that people are scared. The financial experts are agreeing the economy will only continue to get worse well into 2009, and not get any better until possibly 2010. Thats a long time. Better save what you can, and don't buy what you don't need. If you got a job, then you'd better hang onto it if you can, because getting another one might be next to impossible. On the other hand, taking my advice will only continue to worsen our consumer driven economy.

The stuff on Tractorhouse? I got a feeling the newer big equipment is still selling, as ag prices are still decent, but probably the hobby farm equipment is sitting. The disposable income is gone. I think people are hanging onto things if they can, because in order to sell something in this economy, they would have to sell it really cheap to generate any interest.

I have not seen prices drop on e-bay or local sale listings. Do not know how negociable people are now though.

The ones who caught the 15.00 fall delivery beans are smiling. For them a good buyer market. Remember at an auction when you win the bid you are the only fool that would pay that price. My though is as long as oil is down so is grain prices. Watch China's return to production you will see oil go up.

My personal take is the markets will pick up, particularly early. We should get an innaguration bounce (regardless of politics, markets dont like unknowns and the legislative and excutive branches are both filled with lame ducks) and we should get a normal February bounce.

The Dow usually starts to recover 6 months or so before the end of a recession. It appears we hit a hard floor at 8000. Since the first of December it seems that the market is trading with a floor of 8300-8400. Certain stocks are really trying hard to rally. Look at the companies that have solid financials and deal in durable goods. Cat was trading in the 30s, it was the first company to rally on the market rallies and the last to fall. Now, its holding in the 40's. Deere is the same way, on a 35 range.

I read on TDAmeritrade that the money on the sidelines, right now, in money markets and treasuries is equal to 75 percent of the TOTAL value of the Russell 500. We are looking at real, new, government spending on the order of 300-500 billion in the next fiscal year with a repeat the next. Thats hugely pro economic growth. I have serious concerns about what it will do long term with inflation but over the next 4 years Im expecting a strong breakout to begin sometime in mid 2009 with the discount rate at 6 percent by late 2011.

As to equipment prices, we have just come off one of the best years in agriculture, ever. Fuel prices are down, fertilizer, especially nitrogen is down and the commodity complex is trending up. Old iron is under pressure because its a hobby in most cases. New and good used iron will at best drop a token amount off last years highs to reflect lower steel and fuel costs but remember, there are shortages of new equipment. I read this a.m. that Kinze was going to make planters up through March for spring 2009 delivery.

I think once all these big time tractor traders go broke with a lot full of tractors they cannot sell,Then some real farmers who need older affordable machinery might have a better market to buy in

I sure hope so, I wouldn"t mind getting some cheap tractor, Hoping for that(although it will be bad for them but these farmers can get what they have been wanting for years)
