OT/end of country music and talk radio?

I just had to take the pickup for a drive to get it warmed up to check something,so I went to McDonalds in the next town. I was sitting in line at the drive through, bored out of my mind. I cringed at the thought, but I turned on AM radio to the local station that used to carry Rush, then dropped him a few years ago to carry O'Rielly. There was Elvis, then Barry Manilo or something. I switched over to their FM sister station that has always been country and there was the same programing. It was the same syndicated show on 1380 AM that has been on 1430 AM for several years now. An anouncer came on and said it was 1380 AM and 106.3 FM,so I guess they've dropped talk on AM and country on FM. Anybody else have this kind of thing happening in your area? I've been saying for a while that with all the shrill, emotional, over the top talk show hosts that there are out there screaming at the top of their lungs,AM talk was going to be its own undoing. Looks like the market is going to take care of it without the reimposition of the Fairness Doctrine.

I've pretty much given up on radio. I swear the playlist of each station (rock, country, oldies, ANYTHING) is limited to 12 songs that gets cycled through an equal amount of advertising. I flip through the 3 public radio stations I get and if they aren't talking about anything that interests me I just drive in silence.

On the other hand, I drove my dad's car today that has satellite radio and that was pretty nice. Unfortunately, it's just a trial version and kept switching the channel to remind me of that fact. A guy forgets how much good music there is out there.

Back in the 1970's the big thing was to spin rock & roll vinyl records backward to possibly hear evil chanting etc.
We then tried the same thing with a country & western record. The singer got his job, health and women back.
I enjoy Shania Twain and that sort of country but.......Country's typical endless wailing, whinning and crying songs of loss or sorrows wears on a person after a while.

Comcast cable dropped both Country channels along with about 6 more channels in our area, but never lowered their monthly charge. If fact it just went up. They need some competition. Hal

....country. And if she didn't look like she does, no one would listen. No one that appreciates country music anyway.

Country 'music' is pure garbage. 99 per cent of these hillbilly buffoons wouldn't have a clue about the 'real' life they 'sing' about. They seem to think that if they have a cowboy hat and someone sets them on a horse, that that makes them a real cowboy. Most of these jerks would be better off singing about intimate relations with their family or barnyard animals, which is something most of these buffoons have beaucoup experience in, as that would be much more relevant to their made up accents and background.
If they thought they could make more money 'singing' gospel, rap, opera, or children's nursury rhymes, they would do that instead, but they have found an audience that is gullible enough to take them seriously.
Until the filth that rap music describes, some of the most sickening lyrics were in 'county' music, despite what Tipper Gore would have you believe. No, country 'music' would be better off described as hillbilly music.

I"ve pretty much given up on any radio in southeast wisconsin. Same stuff over and over again. Should make the folks that program the stations have to listen to their own radio station for eight hours a day, five days a week!
When I want some music and I am near a computer then I play, what I want to hear, on the computer at sites like www.luckysevenradio.com. A lot less commericals and they don"t play the same ten songs over and over again.

Well at least you don't have a spanish station pumping out so many watts that it overrides all the other local stations.

Funny I got in the truck with my Mexican Buddy and he was listening to Rush. No wonder I like the guy.

The other day he was over getting a load of hay to deliver to a friend of his and on the way out he asked if we wanted to go to the Buffet. I said Chinese? he answered back" NO AMERICAN" We had a great time as the whole family went biggest dinner party I have been to since being back home with Mom's big family.

I had to pretty much give up radio in the car when they dumped easy listening on WOOD, and then that Greenville/Grand Rapids station that played oldies (What was the call sign?)(ODJ?).

Hear the new administration is working on some new legislation that will allow them to pull the licenses of the stations that carry talk radio. It can only get worse. Pray for your first and second amendment rights -- they"re in great jeopardy.

They dropped our CMT a couple years ago with another 1/2 dozen as well, they also got rid of the guild channel, now you have to go through them all it's half past the hour before you find a show. I would love to get rid of Comcast.

Talking about fake accents, take a listen to Merle Haggard or Hank Jr. They have an accent but not that fake stuff the new country has. It's like the more southern they think they sound the more records they sell. But it seems to work. I don't buy them. I think I gotta find Merle's "Kern River".

Shania Twain? Really? Puke! Not for me. Tom T Hall, Merle, Hank, Waylon, Willie, Alan Jackson, Hank Snow, Marty Robins, etc. Those I like? Those others all sound the same. Lots of back ground noise and when singing live they suck.

We still get talk radio WOWO out of Ft. Wayne, IN and local news on WTVB here in Coldwater. Sure wish we gould get a good jazz station, but closest ones are in Lansing and Detroit about 30 miles out of range. Wifes new car has sirius but I don't want to spend $100 a year to listen to the radio. It's free on the internet so I guess I'll make do with that.
Paul

I still listen to some country, Witl and 99.5. But less than before. I think one of the worst jobs in the world must be a disk jockey on a classic rock station. The same 100 songs for 30 years?? Probably drive ya nuts.

WOWO used to be music radiio when I was a youngin I would listen to it an night on the skip.

Change just keeps on changin.

Clearly, the people who listen to talk radio are in the minority. Most people don't like politics, don't care about what is going on, and would rather listen to anything but.

Shania Twain LOOKS real good but her misic isn't real country!
Here's a station that you can pick up on live stream to your computer - they play about 80% classic COUNTRY - the stuff they recorded when I was a kid - and I'm 57.
Blue Ridge Country

Around here it seems alot of the farmers like to listen to talk radio. I listen to an AM station that plays ALL old country songs. The stations that play the new stuff just repeat it all day over and over and over and over and over and over again, and the songs werent worth listening to once. I hardy even turn on the radio anymore, the voices in my head are better than that....Jim

That makes two of us. They dropped CMT and GAC.
My daughter lives 19 miles away in another county and she still has them on Comcast. Hal

Those little voices in my head seem to have befriended eachother and turned against me. I think they really are plotting to get me.

I listen to an "oldies channel" except at work and when Rush is on. Tunes like "Satisfaction" transport me back to the Grand Rapids Armory and summer dances. We might meet a girl from Creston High School or if real lucky Mount Mercy Acadamy. Four guys, bathed in English Leather, Canoe, Brute and British Sterling, all packed in a car; the air must have fogged when we got out at the dance. But the girls liked it and if a little worked a lot must really work.

When I travel, I can usually find an "oldies" station in almost every area from Michigan to Kansas or Oklahoma.

I like the old country but it can get on your nerves, all that heartbreak, booze, and loneliness. Woody Guthrie sang about the times; great stuff.

Larry in Michigan

Hank Jr has a fake accent? If you don't get a southern accent by growing up in Louisiana and Tennesee where do you get one?

Trouble is,I'm in and out of so many vehicles and locations. Radios on 3 tractors,pickup,shop,house... I've got XM through Direct TV,listening to bluegrass right now in fact. I really don't give a rip, that station had O'Rielly and Glenn Beck. Was a time I'd have cared when Beck had his old comedy show, but not anymore. Kinda like when Andy Griffith became Matlock,Carrol O'Connor (Archie Bunker) turned cop on In The Heat of The Night or when Jed Clampet became Barnaby Jones. Lost my interest. As far as country, when it got so I couldn't turn on the radio without hearing Kenny Rogers or the Oak Ridge Boys in the early 80s,that was the end of that too. If it ain't Bluegrass or classical,I ain't listening.

Is that 540 AM from ......is it Fort Dodge? I also listen to AM 970 from I think somewhere in MN. Just started listening to 970.

Geez,is WITL still on? I used to listen to WITL 1010 AM back when I drove milk truck.Back in the days when country was Connie Smith,Skeeter Davis,Tom T Hall, the classic days of country. That was back when FM was just starting to come around. I think they came on at 100.7 FM originally. Is that still where it is?

Local classic rock station, usually listen to them. They have a few songs they repeat but for the most part the DJs can mix up whatever they want. Can't remember the last time I heard "Stairway to Heaven" on any other station, for example. Most stations wouldn't let you play a song that long.

They have a couple of DJs that go heavy on AC/DC, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Metallica, which suits me just fine.

Kid Rock - All Summer Long. I know he is a long haired freaky looking guy, but I sure like that song.

Grew up on the late 60's and 70's stuff.

Went to a Beach Boys concert, a Chicago concert.
Wanted to go to Woodstock, but knew the folks wouldn't let us.

Been to Graceland, too gaudy.

Went to see the Grand ole Opery in 1966, old Ryman auditorium.

Like some of the Bluegrass stuff too, especially the Dillards. Went to see the Dillards several times in concert. Mitch Jayne of the Dillards use to come out deer hunting on our place, I went to a Brewer and Shipley concert with him as a matter of fact.

I like lots of different stuff.

You need a dose of reality if you think the average american gives a hoot about political talk radio. Now if you wanted to talk about Football, Baseball, Nascar, American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, etc. . . Then you've got their attention.

Well, of course you like "new country", because at your tender age, you're a "new guy". Perfectly understandable. No flames from here.

Amen to subscribing to XM-Sirrius. I've had XM for two years now and enjoy it every day. Hook-up in the F-250, in the Explorer, and a boombox hookup at work, and at home. XM channel 10, 13, or 14. Greatest radio there is.

Is it true that there is a FROGGY country station (Good or bad that's another discussion) within every continental US citizen's ear-reach? Two froggys in the LA area, one near NYC, three around Pittsburg, two in the State College Area...Maybe it's a takeover thing? They sure did end the Dixie Chicks. Same ten "country???" songs over & over.

Yea!!

My mom always says that a generation will think its music is better then anything that comes before or after it.

Regardless, i like hank jr, cash, alot. Not just the new stuff

I'll be a hillbilly baffoon, and you can kiss my country @ss.

Its one thing to say something nicely, its another to spew everything that comes to your mind.

a made a video on this and put it on youtube-"why does everyone hate country music" and id post it here but some people are touchy about language.

Well have you ever seen Shania Twains video of Nobody Needs To Know Right Now which at one scene she is getting off of a 4440 John Deere.

Hey Bud that link is:www.blueridgecountry98.com I live 15 miles from that station and can see the tower from my house. That is the only radio station as far as I am concerned. Have a good day . DH

Ever bother to check the numbers of people who listen to talk radio???? Might ought to do that before you make crazy staements.

My nephew is about the same age as you, and he asked for a Slip Knot cd and some clothing from Hot Topic for Christmas. WHY CAN'T YOU BE NORMAL!!! LOL, just kidding.

Country is better than that rap stuff.Whoever screwed up the radio needs to be run out of the country.I can remember driving to work in the 70s and 80s,90s and you would hear some new good music at least once a month. Now its the same thing all the time, plus the talk radio is all trying to imitate Rush Limbaugh or some kind of stupid way of thinking like trying to turn you into a know nothing fool."Conservative"Yeah right! All that did was ruin what little country we had left. Its best to listen to NPR as all the lies on talk radio, and you cant even trust NPR wont lie to you. What happened?Instead of having thousands of radio stations owned by lots of different people, all of them are owned by a few people. These few people must be stupid to have the same stuff over and over on every station. If you are lucky and find a good station it fades quick. The big power ones have the same programs all the time. Most "good"country music is from back in the 50s,60s and 70s.When they all get to sounding alike and talking about the same thing it doesnt take long to get tired of it.Any music has the potential to be good, including country, its just that nobody that decides whether or not you hear it has any imagination and only look for the same thing in every song.I know a few hands that go get drunk on Friday or when it rains, and while that was cool when you are 24,it gets old when you are 44,ugly,lazy,and listening to that old cry in your beer stuff.Who in their right mind wants all that punishment all the time, hangovers, medical problems, divorce, car wrecks, and the rest of it?If you dont have any more imagination than to be like that, and listen to that stuff,I bet it can get to be a real boring conversation trying to talk to you.Plus old hippies are disgusting too.I saw that back in the 70s,the ones wearing pony tails, shooting drugs, listening to Stairway to Heaven, were done long ago.If not for good music being played on FM in the 80s and early 90s,there wouldnt be anything to listen to now.In the 70s I gave away over 100 albums that some of the songs on them are still played on the radio.

Music is never going to stop, but trying to force us to listen to lousy country, rap, propaganda pushers, and the rest is just stupid.Another thing that can use some improvement. We need a younger Tom Petty to get mad at the music industry and fight them back to where you can hear good music again.I guess since Tom Petty made them pay him they are punishing us for it maybe.Whatever it is they are doing with music now is just wrong.I guess over and over is better than new trashy, but its hard to believe nobody is making any new good music.Stupid people arent letting it get out.Greedy hogs think you dont have 20 bucks to buy one of their trash CDs if you have good ones to buy so they use some of the money they make to see new good music doesnt get played.

Yep, WITL and the WITL Whitehouse. I won my first Country CD from them when I was a student a MSU, Diamond Rio, and I didn't even have a CD player yet. It was cool tho to go to the station, it is a huge southern plantation style house setting in a corn field just south of Jolly Road.

I'm in favor of radio with a tuning dial, if you don't like what you hear, then you move the dial. I know that galls you, t-40, and your ilk in DC, who want to ban Rush, because he out argues all of the abundant clowns who have been put up against him.

The world would have been better off if Hank Sr. had suffered from premature ejaculation. Hank Jr. is a drug addicted bum.

What is FROGGY? In Cincinnati WEBN, the frog, is a rock station. They host Riverfest each year, one of the biggest fireworks shows in America.

I listen to WSCH 99.3 Eagle Country or Korn Country 100.3. No shortage of country music around here. Of course, the Grascals do live shows at Legion halls around here too.
WEBN

It sounds like most of yall dont really like country. Country is way better than rap. If yall are country people and really farm or live on a farm yall should love country music.

Hmmmm, I've been out in the country for the better part of the past 36 years, spent more than that on the farm, farm full time and I cant tell you when I last listened to country radio. Not that I dislike it but I like 80s and later rock better. Especially like XM, only way to get my Howard Stern fix.

Now DIY its ok to listen to Rush for entertainment, but when you start believing him is whats wrong with him.You cant possibly believe that blowhard crap he puts out do you?He is like an example of what you dont want to be like.Anybody thats like him are a sorry example of an American.Im sorry he is a traitor.Funny now and then, but that crap he puts out he should have to prove.Plus anybody thats on now tries to imitate that garbage. Its causing its own demise. His dope headedness is another problem for him.He has to be on something to lie like he does.Lives in LA LA land and starts believing that stuff, and gets poor people to go along with it.

The thing that really irks me about him is that he tries to put a tough guy image on"conservatives"when in reality they are slimy, backstabbing, low lifes, that ruin everything good about life for working people. Not people that call themselves "conservatives"because they believe in what "conservatives" say they are for, which does not sound too bad.The problem is that these people dont do anything they say they will,on either side as far as that goes, but especially the "conservative"side.

What will finally get Rush and the copy cats off the radio is when the 8 people still listening to it(I heard that on 1 of the copy cats shows about a week ago) change the station to listen to some music or better talk radio.

Nobody here ever heard tell of socalists/liberals/Demacrates ever being "slimy, backstabbing, low lifes, that ruin everything good about life for working people.
Only Conservatives are "slimy, backstabbing, low lifes, that ruin everything good about life for working people."
Do you actually know the definition of socalist and conservative?

T-40, I guess that's why he has such a big audience, and gets more ratings than all of the leftists put together. I don't say I agree with all that he says, but he agrees with most of what I believe. Now go back to kookland, ask how to argue this point, get your answer off of the daily cos, or the huffing and puffington post, come back and post another half page of rantings. Remember we want a half page essay at least, with lots od adjectives, and no real debate!

Kid Rock gets most of his talent from Warren Zevon (Werewolves of London) and Skynard(Sweet home Alabama) Not much originality there!

I can't resist this one, as I have done mechanical work on 2444's. If she thinks your tractor's se__y, I think your girlfriend is blind! No color wars, I'm just kidding here!

Trucker, I thought you were in the radio biz. I mean, you say the same old garbage time after time after time after.......

Bret4207- you better be careful here, you will send the old coot into a fit, he only likes to argue with one poster at a time! If you want, I'll give you the watch for the rest of the night, I can use a rest.

Yeah sure. You probably are older than me.What kind of sickness is it that has you thinking that way?Lets see if I can put it like your hero-Conservatives are the best and brightest individuals in the USA.Conservatives are the only ones who know whats going on because they listen to Rushy, with one hand tied behind his back to make it "fair".Thats the most disgustingly stupid statement"one hand tied behind my back to make it fair".I mean if you cant see through this, and you think its the truth, well you are needing help.I cant blame lots of people for listening because of the same music over and over on other stations.Probably the people that own the music stations are so dumb they get a check each month from Rushs company to keep playing the same 10 songs over and over so people only have a choice of Rush or monotonous music. He was once a disc jockey and knows lots of those people anyway.Maybe its his company that owns all those other stations so he keeps playing the same music over and over on them. Then you get a bunch who dont know any better that believe this stuff, like you, contributing to the downfall of the country. Its not funny, you arent getting anywhere,Im not a Kook. The only debate you want is rigged in your favor.Every time debate happens between the 2 sides yours looses.Sorry but you are wrong about all that,so dont know what else to tell you.You might be the Kook.

Difference between a socialist and a conservative?Look, there is no conservative party in the United States. There are no conservative politicians in the United States. There are crooks that claim to be conservatives in American politics, but they are as I described them slimy, backstabbing, lowlifes and actually are warmongers.Their appropriate name is Neocon. That means they call them selves a conservative, but actually are a warmonger.

There is no "Socialist"party in the United States,at least not a powerful one.Nobody is calling themselves a "Socialist"except stupid backward people that are calling nnalert "Socialists".nnalert may have more social programs for Americans, and they talk about this stuff, but rarely do anything about it.Also whenever they do a social program,in a few years the Neocons come along and try to wreck it.Sometimes it needs to be wrecked.

What we have are nnalert, who actually run the country, and nnalert who usually set in the background and complain.nnalert get lots of abuse nowdays, but nnalert are criminals.

To understand all this you have to take into consideration what happened in the past, what it was passed off as,and what it is causing to happen now. This changes all the time. The United States is less Socialist than Europe and Canada. For the last 28 years has been in a decline with the exception of a few years when Clinton was President it went the other way. Most of what is said about what is happening to the United States is a lie.The truth is that we have had Fasci$ts running our country for 14 years. That means government run by corporations.

Yeah I know the difference between socialists and conservatives, but it only applies in name as to how its used. The USA has lots of people that dont have any health insurance, have lost their retirement funds, lost unions and union jobs, lost manufacturing, and its a long list of whats been lost. Its because a bunch of politicians that are Fasci$ts called themselves conservatives to get people to vote for them, when that wouldnt work they just paid off vote officials to throw elections in their favor(after both of Bushs "elections"the exit polls showed he lost by 4% to Kerry and Gore won the popular vote, only the Supreme Court wouldnt let the votes get counted)and lots of other elections besides for President have been thrown by voting machines.

nnalert run the country, but nnalert are getting as corrupt as nnalert used to be.Actually nnalert now are Communists and nnalert are kind of nnalert. That puts nnalert at being more conservative than nnalert.nnalert are just big money puppets, nnalert are getting that way.
