Could someone tell me about the cable configuration on the 3010 w/ 24 volt system. I replaced bateries and cables along with a starter silnoid and still have no action using the key. When I turn the key I only get the oil sending light and no generator light. I currently have both batteries with a positiev ground. Reading some past email do I understand correctly that one battery is a positive ground and the other is a negative ground? I also checked the netural safety switch and it seems to be making contact. What am I missing? Thanks for the help

for 24 volts you need 1 battery- to go to ground the positive of that battery goes to neg on the other batery and the positive from 2nd battery goes to starter

on a john deere 24 volt sytem both the - ground cable and the + cable are hooked to the starter.one cable from the right battery and one cable from the left battery.i loaned out my book so cant tell you which cable hooks where.go over to the deere board and ask.someone will answer

Tying both batteries together with both the + posts connected to the same point is putting them in parallel. Output will only be 12V.

You are probably missing the neutral switch. It is located on the shift quadrant.

If you read it careful and between the lines, Gary is correct.
The two 12V batteries go in series. The cable that ties the batteries together is also connected to chassis. The remaining + and - get connected to the cables running to the starter. I can't recall however which battery terminal is connected direct into the starter motor. And the other is connected to the starter solenoid.

The two batteries are connected in series to deliver 24 volts. The negative terminal is connected to the solenoid and the positive terminal to the side of the starter. Remember the starter, generator and voltage regulator are NOT grounded to the frame!

Gary is correct, he is explaining negative ground in series, but it must be ascertained if the tractor in question is indeed negative ground, if not, just switch the ends.Twopops has the ground attached to the starter motor , which is the same as my Fordson Super Major. They are both singing from the same hymn book.
