Gm Hummer truck?

My wife has mentioned that she would like a H3 Hummer to drive. Well........We could only afford a lease and the gas mileage is bad, likely 18mpg overall. My wife drives 75 miles a day and the lease payment would be $400/month (I am guessing)
Does anyone here have a Hummer or know of anyone that has one, lease or purchase. What are the prices, and mileage of this thing. I know that it has the 3.7 liter Inline 5 cylinder motor. MSRP is about $30k on the H3.
The Wifey wants it cause it goes through deep snow and she would not get stuck. But my bank account says, No way. I am thinking about a Chevy Colorado with 4wd, for $21k.

i have a buddy that works as a service writer at the local hummer dealer. they are hard on repairs, not the best on gas, pricey to fix, not the most comfortable to drive. all tho they look cool, not the best choice for a daily driver. here is a link with reviews on the h3
hummer

If you can"t afford to buy one and are concerned about the gas mileage you really don"t need to be leasing one.

How deep of snow are you worried about? VW Tiguan is a nice little 4x4 that should get real good mileage. Hummers are just plain out UUUGLY.

VW Passat's are very nice and will go anywhere with AWD and do pretty good on gas.

Thanks for the info. My BIL was raving over the Hummer yesterday at the yearly Xmas gathering at my Sisters house. I didnt know that the reliablilty was bad.

If it's advive you want,it's free from me,so take it for what it's worth. The wife had a Blazer, the little S10 size. Thing was nothing but trouble. She was doing home health care, out on these Michigan roads everyday, year around. We bought a Ford Explorer Sport Trac. She's got over 230,000 trouble free miles on that thing. V6 4x4,gets around 20 mpg. Has a 4 foot box. We can haul the 4 wheeler in it by leaving 2 of the wheels on the tailgate. I don't care what your opinion of a Ford is,she didn't really want one either, but we both love that little truck.

I got a buddy that will give you his if you assume the lease. In the shop for 6 weeks...4 wheel drive out. In the shop for 2 weeks ...heater out.

On the bright side they are probably all low mileage units as they spend most of their time at the dealer.

I drove one when they came out. You can outrun them on foot. What a piece.

I have a chevy colorado 4x4 2006. I like the truck and has good lugging power with the 3.5 I5. However 18 mpg is probably the max it will get.

Not ever not no how! The lease is designed to facor the dealer.! At 75 miles per day she will most likely go over her mileage allotment. Then you will have big bucks to pay for each mile probably around 30 cents per. The dealer will then offer you another lease but will tack the mileage payement from the first vehicle to the new one. Next year when she is over mileage again they will give you the same deal and keep tacking the mileage payment to the lesas eventually you will be upside down and so deep in debt you will never get out.

Just about any 4wd will go through lots of snow. I'd go for a half ton with the 5.3L in it to get the best 4x4 gas miliage. I don't know why GM still makes small engines that use as much gas or in some cases more than the bigger ones. The 4.3L is a perfect example of a gutless turd that only gets 14MPG in my truck.

Well, from what I have seen from other folks if you lease it, you make payments for 3, 4, 5 years and have nothing to show for it at the end. Most leases I have seen are set up for 12k miles a year. Don't know how many days a week she drives 75 miles but you'l eat up 12k pretty quick, then have to pay for every mile you go over.

you do of course realize that the h3 is basicly a rebodied chevy blazer, and the h2 is a rebodied suburban, go look under a new one at the chevy dealer, then go look at a hummer, same parts, hummer costs more, the only real hummer is the h-1, a completly different kind of vehicle and its price reflects that

Ericlb is correct. They arn't as tuff as you think. If you would actually take that thing off road it would fall apart. Your pretty much paying for a name. I know a lady at work that has one. Your lucky if you get in the high teens(mpg) with it. and like someone else said they are expencive to fix and maintain. there are plenty of 4X4 cars/trucks that would be less expencive and better built to help you threw the snow

I have several friends whos ex wives asked them for an very expensive vehicle several weeks before the gals filed for divorce. Saw a lot of good guys get the new car payment, house payment, her house payment, her standard of living adjustment (even though she joined with nothing), and child support, and got the kids without wanting them.

Got to be careful these days, the gals are very clever, especially when the male is following his tool, if you know what i mean.

Lot of my friends are staying single, for good reason. I am sure there are many good ones out there though.

Don't even think about a lease if your wife drives 75 miles per day. That's about 20,000 miles per year just for the commute. Most leases are based on 12,000 per year, so at the end of a 3 year lease you're going to owe close to $10,000 in mileage fees, plus you don't own anything for all the money you've paid in.

The only person I've seen a lease work for is a buddy of mine who leases a new Lincoln every three years to keep up the image of his engineering business. For him it's a tax deductable expense, and he never goes over the allotted miles.

The H3 is a derivative of the Trailblazer/Colorado platform, so it has most of the qualities and faults of those vehicles. For best performance in the snow, look for one with the locking rear differential option; it makes a big difference even with 4WD.

Right now, leases through GMAC are ridiculous, but some of the other lenders are starting to lease. Credit unions are your best bet. If you can buy extra miles in advance for cheap, then a lease would be OK, otherwise purchase outright. You just need to run the numbers both ways with your lenders. For many years leases on SUVs were cheap because the residual values were so high. But GMAC got burned when gas prices went over four bucks a gallon and you couldn't give away a used SUV.

Speaking of used SUVs, I suggest you check the dealers for two year old lease turn-ins. They may be able to make you a deal. Buying through a dealer, you may be able to purchase an extended warranty; I think GM introduced the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty in 2007.

Got my younger son a used 2 door Blazer with a V6 Vortec and 98,000 last winter. Gets 21 mpg, and for $3000.00, it"s paid for. I"d rather buy a used vehicle, take care of it and pay for gas and insurance. Never saw the sence or savings in leasing.
