Christmas present from, plant manager

2001 we got a new plant manager. Old one got promotion. With old manager we got yearly Christmas bonuses and raises. New manager no bonuses and rarely a rasie, moved plant to new building, now drive 50 miles one way instead of 30, have gone for 170 employees to 60 since he took over, and not enough work to keep everyone busy for 40 hour week.
His Christmas present is he's resigning the end of the year. Biggest problem for the new manager will be to straighten everything out.
There is hope.
 
Good luck with the new one. Common practice out there seems to be bringing in a "shutdown manager", one that has come from plants that have been closed and are there to make things seem impossible and get is much out with as few as possible in the time they have.
 
If workforce has been reduced by almost 2/3, and still not enough work for those left, the problem may go well beyond the manager. What does your plant produce?
 
I was shop manager for the local school bus terminal in our small town. First Student took over Laidlaw and they expected one man to maintain 40 buses. There were only two of us in the shop and could barely keep up with the maintenance program plus all the write ups the drivers had turned in. Cooporate office kept piling on more for us shop guys to do and I asked for help and didn't get a response. Well I quit and now they have four guys doing what two of us did. Makes me made when I think about it but my new job is a lot less stressful and I enjoy it very much. The owner for who I work for now, asked me how I like working for his company and I said I like it very much then told him that I just hope everyone likes me. His reply was; "I (the owner) would be the first one to know if they didn't".

We should be happy and to consider ourselves very lucky that we have a job of 40 hours a week now days.
