this cylinder seems to go with a caswell loader that came off a farmall h, i cant figure out what it does, it would seem that the belly pump has a controll(it only lifts the bucket up and down).thats a simple on-off valve in the picture where one hose screws in.thanks for the help

From what I can see, unless I'm going blind it has a petcock that its using as a valve. If you say its off of the loader, its either going to raise it or tilt the bucket, depending which it came from. I'm guessing raise it because of the petcock and lack of two way valve to tilt the bucket. I can't see all of it from here, but that lever might be long enough thats what was used with the petcock to lower it by gravity. I guess its much cheaper than valves, but if it works, it works.

My guess is that the internal control allowed the bucket to settle so the farmer added this to hold position, maybe when moving farm to farm.

I have a single bottom two-way plow setup for my farmall H and it comes with two cylinders with the same valve on it with the long handle. When you have the two-way plow, you have two lift cylinders, one on each plow bottom. When you hit the end of the row, you pull the control lever to lift the plow for the row you just plowed, shut that valve off, open the opposite side valve, turn around, and drop the control lever to drop the other side going back the other way.

Just guessing but it was most likely used to lock out the loader in the raised position so the hydraulics could be used for something else like a plow or disk without having to remove the loader. Looks like a simple ball valve with a lever attached for a handle.

Will take a SWAG at it.
That cylinder looks too short to be part of a loader, & the handle would be really hard to reach from the seat if it was on the bucket dump.
IMNSHO, more than likely was part of a 3 point or other implement lift, the valve was closed to lock it out, then the belly pump could be used for the loader.
Just another possibility.
