Woke up this morning turned on the TV and after short whole the whole thing went sour POOF nothing. Waited a while and saw that it was going to be down for a while so I fired up the Ol' Gen and hooked it in to the system (Yes I isolated the power grid Hey I don't want to feed my neighbors just me.)

I hope its not out too long I only have so much gas and the roads are all iced up do to the storm last night.

thats what is nice about living in the country, elecricity ect is nice..when it works, but in a power outage its always nice to fire up the generator, throw another log on the fire, turn on the scanner and listen to the town up the road go crazy because the city folks are mad because "somebody" isnt taking care of their every need, wonder how they would feel if i lived in town and still fired up my genny?

Hey Walt;
Got my generator sitting in the heated shop all ready to go if I need it. We have had very little snow or ice here in western Ohio. May get enough to make a white Christmes, but warming up on Christmas day and rain.
Right now it is 11 degrees with winds from the west at 25 to 45 MPH. Not a pleasant day to be out. Got the wood stove going, actually has been burning for 5 weeks now. Got enough wood split to get through Christmas. Just fired up the furnace for the first time today. Been very temperamental and kept kicking off till just a few minutes ago. Hope it is ready now... Back in the early 40's I was very little, my parents only source of electricity was a generator. I am sure a lot of people out side the cities on small farms had the same thing for power. The refrigerator was butaine. The good old days. Stan

To go back further in NW IA (I'm79) when I was growing up, storms did not bother much as far as power was concerned. We had no electricity to the farm (only a few farms did). Kerosene or gasoline lamps,windmill to pump water for livestock and hand pump for us. Therefore, power outages did not bother. We were on a farmer owned party telephone line, so if the lines went down, the neighbors got together and had it patched quickly. Sometimes, it was on fence posts until spring. On a party line, you knew that someone would be listening to your conversation! Having said all of that, I will quote what my Quaker great grandmother said a hundred years ago "They tell thee about the 'good old days' but I tell thee that they were not good. While there were many good things about life in my childhood, I would not want to return to the way things were then.

About 10 inches of snow in balmy Chehalis, and snowing to beat the band again. Unlike Migraine country,we didn"t get much wind, so power still OK. Generator at the ready if needed.

Mike we can send you some wend from up her on HWY 2 between Gold Bar and Index. I went to the store and had to go through some drifts on Reiter Rd that almost stooped my 4X4 3/4 ton dodge. Came back 30 minutes later and where there were no drifts I could see my tracks but where the drifts were they were covered.
