Hey guys need to pick your brains. Have a 91 F250 with 7.3 idi has 425,ooo on it and looking to upgrade. Been looking at some 99-01 superdutys but have heard some horror stories of having injectors changed cost $4000!!!! Are they that expensive? Labor intensive to put in or what? I've had very good luck with the 91 so i'm a little spoiled. I would love to have a powerstoke but my pocketbook only goes so deep.

That sounds like a Rap= of a price. I am sure that a guy at a dealer could give a better price then that. Is that just the injector solenoid or other parts with that?

The 99-01 powerstrokes are reliable engines. I don't know why anyone would put all 8 injectors in at once,,they just don't go bad much. The usual problem is electrical.

If you are looking at one to buy make the point to check the air filter, intake duct to the turbo and the turbo blades. If it has been run with a KN air filter, pass.

Hi PH,

I would by-pass the 99' Fords altogether as they had allot of problems too resolve, clutch/auto tranny, front-end, PSD components, foot pedal, glow plugs & relays, and ???

By 01' almost all the problems were worked out and 02' & 03' were the cherry years with the 7.3.

I only have 30k miles on my 02', PS pump(my cost), master cylinder & fuel sendor (warranty)

A set of OEM injectors is about $1600 new for a DIY project. I use 1qt ATF (typeF)/100gal No2. a 50yr known mix for 500k mile injector and pump lube.

I use a non-vented fuel cap to rid my PSD of the cackle problem, (air in the fuel problem.)

Unless your going to race your PSD, I would stay away from engine chips. The stock PSD does not have one problem with pulling a 31kGCW load at 60mph.

I have a 99 Powerstroke with 130,000 and the engine has been absolutely trouble free.Keep the fuel clean, change filters and oil regularly etc it'll give good service.

If there were any problems with the 99 SuperDuty pickups powered by the 7.3, they occured because of people chipping them.
Far too many SuperDuty owners believe the absolute drivel posted by the wanna-bee truck drivers, high school dreamers, and absolute morons who post on thedieselstop.extremelystupid, who recommend and encourage the owners of these vehicles, whether they are powered by the 6.9,7.3,6.0, or 6.4L versions of these engines to modify them, then thedieselstop.extremelystoopid actually tells them how and encourages them to remove the 'chip' and lie to the dealer, telling them to tell the dealer that the vehicle has never been modified.
These same a$$holes then come back and post, crying about how Ford will NOT honor their warranty.
BTW, the dieselstop.extremelystewpid runs a close race with this site for having the most idiotic questions and answers of anywhere on the www.

Then why, may I ask to you continue to post, or read, either of them? If you are as smart as you claim to be, why not simply answer his question, and be done with it, and show each of us just how stupid we are..............

Hello PH.
2001 to 2003 7.3 powerstorke engine is a very good model years. A lot beter than the older models.
Guido.

It is extremely easy to tell if a 7.3 has been run with a chip after the hot rodder's ruin it.

The injection pattern on the top of the piston is different. Or if they have been chipped, the wording would be, IN the top of the piston.

Just saying , ,
