OT/Direct TV

Did anybody else have a problem with their Direct TV this morning? I turned mine on and had to go through the entire setup all over. Now the screens are different, the buttons do different things than they used to,on the XM music channels, the guide comes up at the beginning of every song to tell you who it is and the name of the song. All of the info on my custom guide is gone. I'm gonna have to reprogram all of that.

Neither rain nor sleet nor snow nor gloom of night..........wait a minute; that's a semi-autonomous agency of the Federal Gov't. It could be describing my old C-band system. Don't think anything can compare with picture quality, channels offered, etc. Only thing, there are so few subscribers that eventually it'll be extinct. Initial installation costs a lot more, but when I got it, it was the only game in town..........

Mine worked fine this morning. How old is your system? Mine got so old that when I upgraded to a HD receiver and multi-LNB dish, they couldn't use my old basic service and had to provide a completely new service on the same account.

Mine would'nt show anything on the screen yesterday morning. I turned off the tv and box and turned it back on and it worked fine

I have two different receivers; the old one in the bedroom and a newer one in the living room.
On the XM radio, the guide pops up at the beginning of each song on the newer receiver, but not on the older one. Weird. Must be in the programming capabilities.

They came out and gave us a new system about 4 years ago to replace the old one that we'd had since 97. New one's the oval dish,3 prong whachamajiggy. Gets local channels. I had to reenter the zip code, wait for everything to download from the satalite, check the transponders, the whole works. Still gotta reprogram the custom guide, but it's probably better'n anything else that's on TV tonight.

Local weather forcast on the 8's was gone from mine this morning. It had gone back to the regional stuff we had a few months ago. For a few months Local on the 8's was customized for my Zip code.

That's weird, especially having to reload everything from the satellite. Maybe they had a software upgrade they had to load. Odd that it wouldn't be transparent to the user, though.

DVR by chance? Mine does that every now and then, especially if its upgrading the programming or whatever it does in the wee hours of the morning.

No,no DVR. The screens are different and everything works different, that's the odd part. The bar at the top is different, has the yellow and blue dots shown for different functions. Press the button to get the program discription and it takes up better than half the screen. The yellow button changes the guide from all channels to custom. When you push the guide button, you used to have to push the orange button too,now you don't. It comes right up with one push of one button. Second botton from the left above the black ring gets you local weather with one push. I haven't gone through to check everything yet. Just different.

Got new remote and receiver from Direct TV after my receiver misbehaved. Have service contract they sent service man who provided the new equipment. Different access, weather set-up, etc. The receiver allows you to do more.

Told my neighbor. 10yrs. with Direct TV - for the price of shipping and handling they replaced her remote and receiver. She and hubby have to install, etc. but she's pleased with new equipment.

I went through a reload the other day. The newer HD receiver from directtv is made to receive mpeg-4 video. On shows like the weather channel, it gets the 262 in HD and the regular 262 digital so you see it twice in the guide. On the older samsung HD receiver bought from circuit city a few years ago, it receives mpeg-2 video. It doesn't see the weather channel 262 in HD but just the regular digital 262. It only sees one 262. Same for others such as 206, etc.

They both receive the 70 series HD shows such as espn hd on 73. They both show the song name and group on the xm stations.

The basic diff is in the mpeg.
